About meJohn and Marsh.

About my libraryThe book collection is now in one place, but many of the ones that John brought to the house are still in boxes. As we get more shelves and unpack more books, we're finding there is some question about which are catalogued. We *think* all of John's are catalogued, so we spot-check periodically.

Collections we especially enjoy:

- Maurice Sendak

- Butterflies

- Evolution

I have become addicted to handling and loving these books, some of which I'd forgotten and many of which cried out to be read, or reread. Now what am I going to do with my spare time? Mwahahaha!!

Hello, I see we share an appreciation for Wings of Paradise. I am a bit nutty where the big moths are concerned, and I have several coffee table books regarding them, but none are as perfect as John Cody's work. He captures their beauty brilliantly.
One magical summer, a female Cecropia my parents reared laid her eggs in our farmhouse kitchen window. We collected all her hatchlings and reared dozens to adulthood and set them free. My children think it is normal to have cocoons in the house; we're hoping our polyphemus hatches safely this Spring. Thanks for your eloquent review of Mr. Cody's wonderful book!
Hi!

We have the same Little Webster! Mine still has the snap. The leather is getting very old and flaky. I try to take good care of it. Don't you wonder who bought those dictionaries and how they survived for so long? I know I treasure mine!

Thanks for writing.

Jan
Hi,

My name is Janis Watson. I checked out your listing because you and I are the only ones of this vast membership who have the Little Webster 18,000 word dictionary. I found mine at an antique mall. It's very small, leatherbound, and was printed in Germany. Does that describe yours too? I've always wondered about this little guy and wondered where it came from and when it was published. Thanks for any information you can provide.
John: thanks! (Re: review of Strange & Norrell) But how could you review Riddley Walker and not even mention the language?! Shame on you... five stars is a good call though. I wonder if you know John Crowley's "Little, Big"? It's up there with Strange & Norrell, in my opinion -- different style, different take on fairies, but equally beautifully written.
John: Thanks -- I see you're not far behind. The man's a genius. I've been collecting items for quite a while and have more to add when I get the time. John F.
