About meI'm a husband, parent, board gamer, blogger, BookMoocher, book lover and an overall nice guy. I've got a M.Soc.Sc. in Information Studies, which makes me a potential librarian.

I'm also an author, as my shiny LT Author badge proves. So far I've written a book on new board games and another on card games. Both are in Finnish, with a rather small print runs, so no wonder I'm the only one to own them on LibraryThing (it's still a bit sad).

About my libraryI usually read books just once, so most of the books I read come from BookMooch, hang around until I read them and then are posted to BookMooch again. I prefer to keep my bookshelf as small as possible. Thus, I only own the books marked "owned". While I love books and reading, owning thousands or even hundreds of books would be almost a nightmare to me.

Popular Music from Vittula, by Mikael Niemi, is another very good book from Finland, which I think was a bestseller there. I very much enjoyed the English translation. - Tim
Hello, Mikko - Just read your review of Frederic Manning's HER PRIVATES WE. I liked it too. I see you are Finnish. I just finished reading a book about Finland, Henrik Tikkanen's memoir, A Winter's Day (English title), the first volume of his memoir trilogy. Which was apparently written in Swedish, which confused me about the author and the setting. But I finally figured it all out, how the 'ruling class' in Finland was, for many years, a small Swedish-speaking element. Anyway, I loved the book. Tikkanen is poking fun at his class, and has a wicked sense of humor. If you've never read it, you might enjoy it. I need to put together a short reveiw soon. Happy New Year. - Tim
I see you're a fan of Steve Erickson. Le Salon is interviewing me about my novel The Red Album of Asbury Park Remixed. I'm currently discussing the years when Steve and I collaborated on music reviews and critiqued each other's work. You might find some of it interesting. http://www.librarything.com/topic/82398

Oh, excellent; I'll definitely be picking it up sooner rather than later then. It looks like the book only came out a couple of months ago, so I guess my timing was good. :-) Thank you again for all your help--May the tiles be with you!
Well, that makes it easy enough! :-) Thank you so much for your response and help; I really appreciate it. One more thing that I forgot to ask the first time--do you know of any good resources for three-player variations?
Hello, I noticed that you have several very helpful reviews for books about mahjong. I played for the first time last night (with some sort of simplified classical Chinese rules) and really enjoyed it. I was planning on picking up a copy of Whitney's handbook but would particularly like to learn the modern Japanese variation; would you have any recommendations? Thanks so much--Cheers, and Happy Reading!
