About meI'm retired and, like all of the people on this site, I love to read! Even though I have a lot more free time I still can't find enough time to read and do everything else I would love to do. I have traveled the globe and finally settled down in Arizona and as soon as I can find the energy to leave this oven I am out of here!

About my libraryMy library is nowhere nearly as large as I would like and is much too big for the space I have to fill. If there is a flat surface in my house it has books on it. As of now, I have only catalogued about half of my books which means I have about 3,500 titles left to enter but they don't have the handy dandy bar code which made the first part of the job actually fun...yes, I am a big kid and proud of it. :-) As a child, while other girls were imagining meeting the man of their dreams and their storybook wedding, I used to picture myself in my personal library which had wall to wall books, was several stories tall and came complete with an attached rolling ladder for easy access. Of course the picture included a fireplace with matching wingback chairs and ottomans so people could put their feet up in front of the fire and lose themselves in the world of their choosing. Years later I tell myself the important part is that I got the books and the rest was just window dressing. The sad thing for me is that I realize that none of my family or friends feel the same way about books as I do and when I am gone these wonderful friends will probably end up in boxes in a storage unit somewhere. I keep hoping that I will meet someone who will be able to give them a good home and will treat them lovingly while allowing them to fulfill their purpose...to entertain and delight.

I'm rarely on Librarything. It's a big world...some people will enjoy my writing and some people won't. On occasion if I have heard the same comment 2 or 3 times (e.g., too many characters) it can even be helpful for a new writer to read a negative comment. It would be easy for me to ignore your comments - and I probably should - but I feel I must address them. Mentioning someone's nationality is not an ethnic slur. Connecticut, particularly the areas surrounding casino country is ethnically diverse. Some people are Ukrainian and some people are Asian. I am neither. Nor am I a Yuppie WASP (which sounds a little racist to me, but I know you don't mean it, you just mentioned it.)
And anyone who knows the genesis of native American gaming knows that it started through a legal loophole intended to allow bingo as a fundraiser. Many of the casinos have been funded by wealthy Asians. That is not an ethnic slur either. It's a fact.
I applaud you for standing up where you imagine you see intolerance but there is none in the pages of The Big Dirt Nap. Just some good guys, some bad guys and a couple of crimes.

Did you know that there is another Forrorrois book? #3 is Trager's Return? You and I are the only Library Thing members who have Snow's books in our libraries :)
Hi Abby, Thanks for letting me know that I snagged a title from the recent offerings. It sounds exciting and I am looking forward to reading it. To help pass the time I have ordered the first in the series so that I can hit the ground running when Blown Coverage gets here. I do have another reason for contacting you though. For some reason not all of my titles are appearing when I do a search in my library. Earlier today I checked on L. A. Banks and it came back that I had 5 titles by her but only 3 of the book titles showed up. A short while ago, after adding more books, including 8 more books by Banks, I checked again and this time the list showed that I had 13 books by Banks but only 11 books were named. I also noticed a similar problem when I looked to see which titles I owned by Rachel Caine. At the top of the list it says 1-8 of 8 but only 6 books are correctly listed. One title simply says 'Vampires, Book 1' and that should be Glass Houses: Morganville Vampires Book 1. I don't know if this is just a temporary software glitch or if anyone else is experiencing this same thing but I just thought I should let someone know. Thanks for all of your hard work.
There's a 600k file limit for uploaded covers. You can use a photo editing program to downsize your photos - look in the help file for your scanning software.

Hi,

I hate to tell you this, but this is definitely a question for you and your photo editing software. We can't help with this.

I DO think it's awesome you're scanning covers in - and the scans you've taken should be able to be scaled down, so your existing efforts have not been for naught.

Good luck!
Sonya

"I am sure the answer to my question is somewhere on this site but I have looked until my eyeballs hurt and I can't find it. I am not a techie, to say the least, but I have scanned some book covers into my computer so that I can include the cover art in my library. The problem is when I try to upload the scanned cover I get an error message about the file being too large. I have no idea how to change the scan or number of pixels. I scanned them into my computer using my Canon MX310. I love the feature which allows you to view your library by seeing the actual book cover and I would much rather see that than the generic book cover when your book cover is not in the database. I won't say I am judging a book by it's cover but when I scan my library to find something to read the cover art has a way of catching my eye while jumping up and down screaming, me! me! me! If you or anyone else can tell me what I need to do (in the easist terms possible) to get this cover art up!
loaded, I would so appreciate the help. A big thank you to everyone responsible for this great service. I have to say this is my all time favorite website ever, not to mention a wonderful tool to all of us bibliophiles. My insurance agent loves you for finally getting me on the road to a current inventory!"
Patience is the answer! The April books are *just* starting to come in. (For that matter, books from the March batch are still trickling in!). They really can take over a month to come...

Best,
Abby
