- About My Library
- I love the more complex classics of European literature, tending towards the modernist, realist, existentialist and nihilist. Having loved the Cairo Trilogy by Mahfouz, I am now exploring many of the other 20th century classic modern Arabic novels (at least those that are available in English translation) from Egypt, Palestine, North Africa etc.
I would say Dostoevsky is my favourite author, alongside Marcel Proust, Joyce, Tolstoy, Nabokov...and many more. Favourite books would include Ulysses, In Search of Lost Time, Brothers Karamazov, Crime and Punishment, Notes from the Underground, Lolita, Madame Bovary, Cairo Trilogy, Don Quixote, Anna Karenina; and the list will undoubtebly continue to grow. Strangely not particularly enamoured with classic British literature (outside of Middlemarch).
A lifelong reader, I would credit Roald Dahl's classic children's books for making me fall in love with reading at a young age; as such, those books continue to hold a special place in my heart, and my library. - About Me
