About my libraryThis is my main library, for the most part these are books on shelves. Generally speaking, I still have access to the 'Donated' books (mostly in Service's library). The 'Gifted' books have gone beyond my ken, but I track them here because I may send more that way from time to time. A lot of duplicates come through here - sometimes deliberately - and off again to other homes.

A wall of books *and* a twelve-inch Dobsonian? Jealous! (But I'm going to steal that photo idea, apologies in advance...)
Hi John (Nandadevi),

Thanks so much.
I look forward to unpacking them!
The list includes some of my favourite books - and some I haven't read yet, so it's great.

Noel (Noellib)
Hi Nandadevi,

I have already received a copy of "Perfume" by Patrick Suskind - so perhaps someone else would appreciate that one.
All the other titles you listed would be very welcome additions to my new post-bushfire library collection.
Once again, thanks in advance for anything you can send.

Happy New Year for 2014!
Noel (Noellib)
Hi Nandadevi,

That is a very generous offer.
I have not replaced any of my lost books yet, so I would be very grateful if you can supply any.
Perhaps the best way to proceed would be for you to send a list of titles that you have 'spare" - that match the books in my library.
Of course, replacing my library is not the most urgent task facing us, but it would definitely help lift our spirits!
I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
I've always known that type of bookshelf as board and bracket. My father called them that when I was a child so I imagine the phrase has been in use for at least 50 years in the United States, but it does not seem to be universal here, as I have encountered a number of people who don't recognize it. I am always surprised at how few people seem to have this sort of bookshelf as it is an easy do-it-yourself and quite cheap.
Hi Nandadevi,
Oops. I clicked on the wrong link yesterday, when trying to post a review of "The Earth Has a Soul". I thought I corrected it, but apparently not. I just corrected it for good now!
Thanks for sending me the information about the top 50/5000 list, which was certainly of interest.
I used to get rather hot under the collar about the whole business of incorrect positions. Now I tend to think 'oh,what the heck'.
Maybe its an age thing so let members do what they like - they will do anyway.
Thanks again though.
Hi again, John Mack. I don't remember Among School Children, but Mountains Beyond Mountains is great, very worth reading...and don't forget Team of Rivals. I bet you'll love it. I just finished it, and it is such a fine and satisfying book -- 5 stars.
Also, I see you read Team of Rivals, which falls in that category!
I love your tag Books for Burning, for the klunkers!
Are you in education?
Me, too, John Mack! I read Hiroshima when I was about 10 years old and it made a huge impression on me. Ever since, my favorite books have been novels that read like non-fiction and non-fiction that reads like a novel. Then I became a newspaper reporter and book reviewer and that preference was mightily enforced.
Loved your review of The Zoo Story, which I just finished!
