About my libraryWorking through my guilt of having too many books by, erm, cataloguing them. I blame my mum, who refused to buy me books for Christmas or birthdays as they would 'ruin my eyesight', and would only take me to the local library (the rather uninspiring library at Far Cotton, Northampton) under duress, and for the briefest amount of time possible, because books were dirty things, and I should always wash my hands after touching them. 500 books later...

That is the cutest picture. Reminds me of Janet Frame in youth.
Gosh, I'd forgotten my old, and alas late, friend Antony Easthope had written a little book on the Unconscious. Antony always used to maintain that Freudianism was perfectly obviously true because you only had to look at how things are in your family! Kind of true in his own case! Actually, keeping on a gossipy note, I've met Darien Leader, and his dad is just a lovely man--one of those physicists who loves literature, and now married to an equally wonderful person, a Shakespeare scholar from Bulgaria. So there are good dads!
We share some great books. “The New York Trilogy”, “The Secret History”, The Hours”, “Primary Colors” are among my favorite reads.

A “History of the World in 10.5 Chapters” is one of the few disappointing books by Julian Barnes, I thought he was trying to be too clever, but that was years ago and I thought I was clever too then, so maybe I should give it another go.

Notice you have only the first volume of Proust, as have I ! So many people have told me that this is my perfect book, but I’ve never got through it yet – still trying though, I love long series of books
