About meBecka is currently in love with Taylor Swift's Love Story, and doesn't care who knows it, and is also currently avoiding her homework. She'd be happy if anyone wants to talk to her about books/manga, and would like to stop speaking in the 3rd person now, dammit.

About my libraryBecka's taste in books is kind of eclectic, and not particularly literary, but whatever; it doesn't pay to be snooty about books, she thinks.

Congrats on getting through your first exam!

Nope, I don't think I've read any Charlene Harris except maybe a short story in an anthology. I don't recollect for sure. I have heard quite a bit about her books though.

Right now I absolutely must take a book buying hiatus. I had a couple bills crop up that I have no idea how to pay and have actually resorted to selling some manga and anime on ebay to come up with the money *sigh* That along with my son's graduation/birthday party coming up and it's just a disaster. But, enough about that!!

I'm really looking forward to finishing both the S series and Totally Captivated when I can. I've started re-reading Challengers after our conversation about Tyrant. My husband keeps giving me weird looks because I start giggling for no reason, it really drives him nuts! I'm also reading another Harry Dresden book which I am really enjoying.

I wish you very good luck on your next exam :-)

Cheers!
I agree, I was a bit disturbed about that scene in S vol. 2 as well. It seemed a little out of character for him.

I got my note from betterworld.com that they've shipped my Totally Captivated vol. 2. I'm looking forward to it :-) (See what I mean, no self control whatsoever, at least this way I can say it is for a good cause).

Have you read any of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments books?
I'm reading City of Glass now. I've really enjoyed them and they seem like something you might like as well, but they are more in the vein of The Mediator books than S.

Smiles :-)

Jenine
My husband gets annoyed at my book piles too LOL! I try to think of it as a retirment plan... so many books to read will keep my busy when I get too old to do anything else!

I read the first vol. of Totally Captivated and you're right, it is very cute! Another series I'll have to buy *sigh* Have you had a chance to stop studying and read S yet?

So you're not a vampire knight fan. I thought it was okay, the leading girl character was a little creepy looking to me. Of course, you know who my fave vampire is LOL!
No, manga-heavy is good. It bemuses me the way some people look down manga just because there are pictures involved, when there's an equal amount of vapid prose fiction out there too! (Which is not to criticise candy reading of any variety, just point out the contradiction in that assumption.^^)

I'm not sure what's going to happen to DQ's back catalog, or all the titles that they licensed (to say nothing of translated) but never released. It'd be ideal if someone bought them out, because otherwise all that translation work will go to nothing.

And yup, I'm on BookMooch, although I rarely log in anymore, as I aready own enough books I need to read without acquiring even moreXD
Nope, the S volumes aren't your normal yaoi! I know what you mean about the "formula" yaoi, but I don't think you need to worry about it with those.

I have to tell you, after putting my note on your profile the other day the "Love Story" song has gotten stuck in my head. I haven't heard it for a while. They used to play it all the time on the radio. Of course, it could also be because my co-worker sings it all the time. She has it as her song on her MySpace profile.

Vassalord is also...different. A very weird vampire with a very weird relationship with a cyborg/vampire person. It is funny in some places and pretty violent in others. Over here only the first two volumes are out and I'm waiting on news of a third. The vampire also kind of reminds me of Goh, he's the more flamboyant one from Yellow, but the stories aren't similar at all.

I've been incredibly bad this week book buying wise. The used bookstore had a half-off sale and I went a little nuts. I just noticed that my "tbr" tag is up to 300. That means I now own 300 books I haven't read yet *bangs head* I really should try harder to control myself but it may be a lost cause.
I'm curious to see what you think of the S novels when you read them. I did a review of S and got a little ranty on the lack of honorifics, it's funny you said you were talking about honorifics with Tsubasa! No, they are definitely nothing you'd want to read out and about, especially due to some of the pictures. If you like dark and violent, even without the vampires, I think you're really going to like them.

Yup, I'm totally clueless on the whole Tsubasa Syaoran/Sakura relationship too. It is definitely weird. Are you reading the xxxHolic counterpart? I picked up volume 13 from the library yesterday although I've already read it online. I was wondering where Watanuki lost his glasses, now I know! I guessed I missed it before. I'm not sure why my library carries xxxHolic but not Tsubasa. It does make it more convenient for me though, because it is expensive enough just collecting the Tsubasa one and, you know, that's the one with Fai so that's the one I want more LOL!

Have you read Vassalord? Just curious, when you mentioned dark and vampires I thought of that manga.

Is Yellow a hard one to pick up in the UK? Here it is pretty widely distributed. They still carry the series at Borders here. It was funny, I was buying a manga at borders, I think it was a volume of Our Kingdom, and the cashier looked at me and said, "Yellow?" and I just kind of looked at her funny. That's how I found out about the manga after she told me she was asking if I had read it. I'm glad she brought it up because it's a good one! I didn't like it quite as much as I did Fake but it was pretty close.

How are your exams going? My son has finals at the end of May and then he graduates. It's pretty unbelievable to me.
Hello again! Actually I probably won't get any books or a gift card for mother's day because my family resents my book reading :( My house is filled with them and my husband keeps threatening to bonfire!

So you like Yellow too! It's too bad LT ate your post, I would have liked to have seen what you said about that and TRC. I noticed you added the four "S" volumes to your library. I've read the first to, they're good but not as light as Yellow. Very, very explicit and dark.

I know what you mean about the Sakura/Syaroan (which I can neve spell correctly!) thing. I'm completely confused about the mother/father girlfriend/boyfriend son/daughter thing. There is a scene in the Tokyo Revelations anime not included in the manga which where the Sakura from Cardcaptor Sakura leads the TRC Sakura out of the ruins after she gets the egg. Quite cool and I'm guessing meaningful figuring on how the manga is going.

I've ordered the first volume of Totally Captivated from my local bookstore and hope to have it in this week.

I want to write more but have to leave for work *grumps*
Hi! Pooh, Tyrant looks like it would be very good too! The main character totally reminds me of Erie Yuki (forgive my spelling, I'm sure I'm off) from Gravitation. I did try the online link you gave me but my virus protection went completely wiggy every time I opened a new page *sigh* Trismegistus (comment below this), thanks for the input. It's a shame that the publisher messed it up so bad! I thought Challengers was very cute, I have the full set.

With regard to Acheron, I know what you mean about having Ash wind up with someone normal. I got the feeling that the author kept Tory normal just for that reason too.

I'm going to see if I can talk my family into giving me Totally Captivated for mother's day :-) We'll see how that goes. At least maybe I can finagle a bookstore gift card!

Are you enjoying the Discworld books? I have one in my tbr pile and I've heard very good things about the series but haven't gotten to any of them yet. I've restarted the Harry Dresden series and am reading book 5. I read the first 4 books of the series last spring but then just never requested the next book from the library until now.

The S novel is one of those little June manga/novellettes that are basically tiny books with a few pictures. Do you know the ones I'm talking about? The premise for the story sounds a little like Yellow, sort of. Should be interesting. I might set aside Harry Dresden to read that first (now that I've talked myself into it LOL!)

I can totally sympathize with your BookMooch postage woes! I do some shipping overseas and it is really tough on the wallet. I have my profile set to "ask first" but almost always agree to send whatever is being requested.

Well, I'm off to wash my ever exciting dishes...

Toodles!

Jenine
Hi there,

I just surfed into your profile the BookMooching group and saw your comments below about Tyrant and Challengers. Unfortunately you aren't likely to get your hands on Tyrant any time soon. Their publisher was pretty fantastically mismanaged financially, owes a lot of people (including much of their staff) a lot money, and is no position to put out new releases. If you really want to read them, I'd recommend looking online.

So as not to end on a sour note, cool library.^^
BTW - is the Tyrant book you mentioned by the same person as the Challengers manga? If it is I've been looking for those books for quite a long time! I had ordered them off of Barnes & Noble but then they sent me and email saying they could no longer get them and Amazon doesn't have them :(
I finished Acheron this morning :-) I liked it, but somehow expected something....more, especially with the romance part. I'm not sure why. I'm so happy that Nick wasn't a complete jerk in it! It would have been hard to keep him as my favorite character if he had hurt Tory. There is still hope for him! I'm pretty sure I have Stryker's book around here somewhere, I'll have to look. I'm quite curious now. Have you read it yet? I also love the Savin' Me song, it was very sweet.

I wound up getting S Volume 1 instead of Totally Captivated yesterday. I had the second volume already and wanted the first one so I can read both. Also, I discovered I only had just enough for the less expensive book. It was bad enough I had to use $2.00 in quarters to pick up the book LOL! So there is no Borders in the UK? That's a bummer. I like it mainly because I get coupons from them all the time, I just wish it was closer to where I live although it is probably better it is not!

I've been on BookMooch for a while and enjoy it. Most of my 290+ tbr books came from there. However, lately the books I have on my wishlist always seem to come up "sorry, none of these people are willing to send to you." which is a little frustrating. Is your BM ID the same as here? I'll have to check out your inventory.

Smiles :-)
Okay, you've convinced me that Acheron is my next book! I've just finished reading After Glow by Jayne Castle and have the rest of the week to finish Acheron before I go back to work. I'm thinking now might be the best time. Then we can definitely chat about the book!!

Satisfaction Guaranteed isn't really a naughty manga LOL. It is about a private detective who hooks up with a model to investigate crimes. They're both late teen early twentyish, bishounen of course, and it is a little slashy, but nothing overt (kind of like Fai and Kurogane, without the magic, swords or aruging). I enjoyed the series but actually liked Psychic Power Nanaki by the same manga-ka better. Unfortunately both series have been left in the frustrating non-ending limbo by either the U.S. publisher or the manga-ka, I'm not really sure who to blame.

I may be taking a trip to the mall tomorrow that has a big Borders in it. I'll keep an eye out for Totally Captivated if I do, it sounds like something I'll like. Is it a complete series?

I'm off to see if I can find your 50 book challenge thread :-)
I cannot find your Acheron review! I don't mind spoilers so I'd like to read it. My mom has already read the book so I have a pretty good idea what happens LOL! She can't keep secrets.

Which Fai voice actor were you talking about, the English or the Japanese one? Just curious. I usually watch everything with subtitles, but I do think that the voice actor who does Fai in the English dub is also doing Tamaki in Ouran High School Host Club. One of my "to dos" today was to take a look and find out for sure. Once again, just one of those weird things I need to know for my own benefit.

I saw your post about Totally Captivated on the manga group. That seems like a good one and I've been thinking about starting it for a while. Right around Christmas I went through a whole period collecting the Wild Adapter and Satisfaction Guaranteed series and since finishing those have really been trying to cut back on my purchases. However, I have my momentary lapses in judgment, especially when cruising Amazon. Too much temptation!! My original plan was to take a ride up to Borders today but since I'm on vacation this week and plan to take each of my sons out for one day each I put the kibosh on the trip *sigh*

Now that you've finished Acheron, what's next on your list?
So how's that essay coming? :-)

I get the impression that there is a lot of speculation on the Light/L thing. My son's friend's girlfriend (twice removed LOL!) has been the only real world person I've ever sat down and talked manga with and she was a Death Note obsessee completely convinced that Light and L were soul mates (of course, from what I understand any sort of "happily ever after" would be rather difficult with what happens to L). I loved talking to her *le sigh* and only met her the one time. She's the reason I tried out Death Note in the first place.

Have you seen Tsubasa's Tokyo Revelations anime? It was fantastic! I can't wait for it to come out on dvd.

I promise I will certainly try out Saiyuki...I just can't promise when :-)

BTW - I love your profile pic! Very cool!!
Thanks! You've got Let Dai, too, which is one of my favorite series ever.

It looks like we've got some of the same taste in books, too. I just finished Thirsty last month. I get a real kick out of that author's writing style.
I love reading long posts so I don't mind at all!

I'm on vacation next week and had thought about tackling Acheron then, but I really want to try and get out and about a bit. However, if it rains I'll probably reconsider. I have so many books to read it is kind of overwhelming!!

I did read the first few volumes of Death Note but (please forgive me!) I really didn't like Light. The whole lack of morals thing just totally put me off. L was a neat character and I enjoyed the demon flying guy (can't remember his name). I kind of set the series aside for a bit and might go back to it at some point. I haven't read Saiyuki but have been thinking about it. Since I liked WA so much I figure I'll like that too. So, from what you said does that mean there will be more WA in the future? That would be very cool! I've never heard of Diablo and will have to check that one out as well.

If I could find a way to petition Clamp to continue Legal Drug I would certainly do it! I just loved that series...what there was of it. They did have the LD characters in the first volume of xxxHolic, but that was the last we heard of them. Yhea, Tsubasa is a pretty big series. I'm kind of glad it seems to be getting to the end. I hate it when the drop series without ending them (which Clamp seems to do with alarming regularity).

In the world of Kenyon I think my fave has to be Nick. He's kind of had a rough ride but somehow he has totally endeared himself to me.

If you're at all interested, when I finished off the McKinley box set I had I did a comment in my library comparing Luthe and Fai (yes, I'm a bit weird about that stuff LOL!). You're welcome to check it out. It was totally off the cuff so there are tons of typos.

Have you ever read The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove? It is the only Christopher Moore book I've read so far. There is a scene with a sea monster and tanker truck that had me laughing so hard I just about passed out! I really should make a point of reading more of his stuff.

Well, I really should be working so I guess I'll be off :-)

Jenine
Thanks for the info on the Christoper Moore books. :) I will have to check one out one of these days. Have a great day!

Umm, I do have to admit to a little fantasy world building when it comes to the Kuro/Fai thing *blush* although I'm happy with however the lovely ladies want to play it. I think one of my fave Clamp pairings is Touya/Yukito, they were so darn sweet and, of course, the guys from Legal Drug.

I saw over on one of the threads that you mentioned the Manga-Ka for Wild Adapter had taken ill and that's why she hasn't worked on the series :( That's a total bummer. I'm not usually wild about the more violent manga, but for some reason I liked WA.

So, what do you think of Acheron? My copy is still sitting on my shelf waiting for its turn. It is so sad I saw it at the store the other day in paperback after I just had to run right out and buy it in hard cover when it first came out. The size is so daunting I just keep putting it off. It was the same thing with The Host by Stephenie Meyer. That was another one I put off for about a year because of its size and I wound up loving it.

I'm glad you were happy about finding Fake 2! Actually I don't usually do a lot of manga reading online but that was one I really wanted to read. I also keep up to date on Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle on onemanga.com (which is nicer to my computer than mangafox) and still pick up the volumes as they come out. Just can't get enough Fai LOL!

I see you have Holly Black as a fave author. I love her Tithe books! She's actually a local author for me and lives in a town about 45 minutes away. I met her a couple years ago at ReaderCon which was neat. I haven't read any of the Spiderwick books yet but might eventually.

Okay, you probably don't need me rambling on any further. I just noticed my comment is working its way into the short story realm...

Smiles :-)

Jenine
Over on the "What Are You Reading Now?" group you mentioned you couldn't find the second Fake arc. I found it on mangafox.com. My computer doesn't really like the site and tends to periodically freeze up but I was bound and determined I would read it!

We seem to like a lot of the same stories (not to mention sharing Fai LOL!) which is kind of neat. The only difference is that I actually enjoyed Shadow's Return :-)
Hi,
Thanks so much for the friends invitation. I love seeing what everyone is reading and what they think about it. I see you have some of those books by Christopher Moore that I see so many people reading. What are they like? Are they funny? Some of the titles seem pretty humorous. Thanks again and have a great day!
