About my library My catalog is an exercise in memory. It is a list of the books I have read. Some have flowed through my memory like water, leaving nothing behind, while some have remained and shaped who I am, what I think and what I write.

I am also a compulsive book buyer (eBay, Alibris, Abebooks, bookshops, garage sales, auctions). I tend to purchase far more books than I read. The advantage is that no matter what mood I am in, there is an appropriate book close at hand. See Nickdreamsong1 for the contents of my personal library.

Hello Nick (Jamie)...I was glad to get your comment that revealed that you had, after all, cataloged your books, and was surprised to see just how many we had shared. (I had also met Robert Ferro a few years before he died; such a wonderful writer, and loss...)
One of the joys of living in LA is the LA Times/UCLA book fair every year. Great panel discussions, and events, author signing, and much stimulation of spirit and mind.
Fairly avid book buyer on this end as well.
Thanks for saying hello...
~Rob
Nick,

I got to your library because we share "gents" which is superb. But to the point, after scanning your tag cloud and the books we share, I was surprised that you don't list
How I Learned to Snap" by Kirk Read. Sweet and funny and poignant true stories in a teenagers coming out in Virginia in the 1980s. Outrageous and funny -- as well as well written.

Best to you!
Heyya, Nick. We have a ton of books in common, so I thought I'd say 'hey'.

I love Wojnarowicz ...

You and I have 94 books in common.

I enjoyed perusing your list of gay novels, as I'm always looking for new fiction recommendations. As such, can I ask you what you thought of Mark Merlis's AMERICAN STUDIES? On many levels, I enjoyed his quasi-historical novel AN ARROW'S FLIGHT. I thought it was clever and well written, but perhaps it was the concept more than anything else that won me over.

Is AMERICAN STUDIES as good? I'd never heard of it before this and, checking it out on Amazon, I get the feeling it might be a tad polemical for me. What's your honest take on it.

Well, take care now. I'm going back to your library.

~Blake
Hi ~ I notice that we have a good number of books in common, you are near the top of my weighted users list and I am about the top of yours. Looking through your library of books tagged gay I have found a few more books that I have now put on order. Unfortunately for me you have not rated your books; if you have the time to get in touch with me I would be very pleased to hear of any books you especially enjoyed and recommend. ~ Benjamin
