GroupsMy 50 favorite science fiction books, Science Fiction Fans, SF, horror and Fantasy Romance

About meI'm a Canadian science fiction writer and ecologist. As a scientist, I work for an environmental consulting firm to help keep our environment healthy for our children and their children. My SF short stories have been translated and published all over the planet, including Romania, Poland, Israel, Greece and North America. I've published three novels to date. My latest, "Darwin's Paradox" explores our relationship with machine intelligence and Nature's intelligence. I also review books and movies; you can find my reviews in various places. My latest book is a guide to writing fiction (The Fiction Writer: Get Published, Write Now!) and adopted by several schools and universities in their writing programs. I also teach online courses and give workshops and host retreats all over North America and Europe (see www.ThePassionateWriter.com).

About my libraryMy library is eclectic and varied. I adore the classics (Thomas Hardy is one of my favourites)and read a lot of science fiction, speculative fiction and some fantasy. I read some romance, but mostly cross-genre with fantasy or science fiction. I also like historical novels and non-fiction. My non-fiction collection spans anything from all the sciences, history, geography, politics, sociology, and philosophy. And I LOVE dictionaries! Check out my catalogue list for the 50 favourite SF books in my library

And while it takes courage to achieve greatness, it takes more courage to find fulfillment in being ordinary. For the joys that last have little relationship to achievement, to standing one step higher on the victory platform. What is the adventure in being ordinary? It is daring to love just for the pleasure of giving it away. It is venturing to give new life and to nurture it to maturity. It is working hard for the pure joy of being tired at the end of the day. It is caring and sharing and giving and loving…

Sorry for the delay in replying...on vacation in Williamsburg, Va for a week...a grand place...two science fiction books that I really enjoyed were, Evolution : a novel
by Stephen Baxter (I feel this was a great story that features the evolution of humanity) and Bring the Jubilee by Ward Moore (One of the original and perhaps best Alternate History Novels featuring a Southern victory). I'll keep thinking about that third one. Good Luck with your writing. :-)
Great selection...Best Steven Tempo

I am suspecting your list, like mine, is nowhere near complete. there is a woman here on LT who is attempting to get everything she's ever read onto her list. she's up to over 6000 so far. I am including anything I've read on my list but doubt I will ever get _that_ far .
As an author, you can apply to be a LibraryThing AUthor, that gets you a special yellow star! I don't know what other perks it has other than linking your author page to your user name. If you are interested email Abby, address on the blog page.
