Umm..this doesn't put me in a very good light, but my girlfriend and I are big football (soccer) fans, and about 3 years ago we had a mammoth bet about the outcome of the season. We basically had to predict where teams finished and got points for accuracy. My forfeit was to read all the Harry Potters (thankfully only 4 at the time). I was so confident of winning I decided not to give her a forfeit, thinking that bragging rights would be enough. With that sort of arrogance on my side, there was, of course, only one outcome. I lost by a lot.

I am kind of glad I read them in the end, because they are such a literary landmark, and they were much better written than I expected, though they are definitely filed under 'not my sort of thing'. I haven't felt compelled to read the last three, which probably says it all.
thank-you for your comment -- my reviews are really just an on-line version of my little book journal -- sometimes I forget people read them, until I get a comment. I've had to go thru an consciously de-spoilerize them over time! Jen
