About meLife long reader. Retired architect living very happily in the rural and remote Southwestern US in Social Security poverty. Interests are:history, geography, natural beauty, cultures other than my own, baking bread, reading of course, computers, old buildings, current events.

About my libraryStill rearranging my luggage; and installing my furniture, reviews, card catalogue. Lots of dust still settling.

I'm not sure how I got to your page, but your comment about Social Security poverty rings a loud bell. Retired school teacher here, and life is good. We lived small anyway, so retirement has been all positive.
We share a fair number of books, but I see my name only on the raw 'members with' list.
Anyway, as you are about to celebrate your first Thingaversary, I congratulate you and hope you're finding LT a good place to be.

LOL. I know its a pretty picture right.

Yeah, I think I'm done with GR but I will keep the account open. I spent all day deleting stuff.

I'm still learning my way around here. Thanks for the invite. I like the quieter side of things actually. I want to spend more time reading books anyway.
Ah Mosca- I recognize that name. Glad to meet a fellow GR diasporate!
You can ring my bell my bell ring my bell, my bell - ringalingaling!
Hi, pajarita!

I don't normally accept friends invitations here, unless I know the person from somewhere else, mainly because the "friends" status doesn't seem to really do anything! But your message was so kind that I could not resist.

I, too, am retired, in my case from the practice of law, and am busier than ever. I like to say that I am doing all the things I wanted to do while I was working, but never had the time and/or energy to do. As an architect, you might be interested to know that one of those things is volunteering as a docent at Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House, just a short distance from my home.

"I am amazed by the less-than-well-known books that you and I share"

I'm always intrigued when I find someone who shares odd books in a variety of unrelated fields. It makes me happy to know that I'm not the only strange person!

I hope you'll be around LT more now that you have fled GR, and that you enjoy it here.
Hello! In response to your question, yes, I am the same Candiss from Goodreads. The fact that we're friends there is what led me to request your friendship here at LT. (I was browsing Groups, saw Refugees in the New section, checked it out, saw your name and comments, and recalled the name from GR. I first noticed both profiles list Louise Erdrich as a favorite author, then I saw that the same blog is listed for both profiles, which of course clinched it.)

It's nice to find friendly faces in unfamiliar lands. :)
Hi Mosca! It's Traveller from GR here! Would be nice if we could add each other here as well. :)
Hiya,

I've been a member on Goodreads for a month or so now and met some lovely people. I am disappointed about the latest acquisition and hope that LT will up the social side so that it is more comparable.

The photo is indeed of my daughter. It is quite old now - she was 18 months or so there and is now 5! Radio 4 is pretty much like that, yes. Definitely no ads (the BBC is not allowed to!) and lots of interesting programmes. I presume that you would be able to find podcasts and so on from it to get an idea of the flavour.

Hope you enjoy Librarything!

Allie
"Through a minimum of effort, I see that you are also Moira Russell (Red Shoes is the giveaway) from Goodreads."

Haha yup, it's kind of my trademark!.....well honestly it prevents me from having to remember a lot of different virtual aliases if they're all "the red shoes" or a variant. I have a terrible memory.

"At Goodreads, you may know me as Mosca. We have a number of Goodreads common friends."

That does sound familiar!

"I see that the Santa Fe Public Library is one of your "Favorite Bookstores" as is the "Collected Works". Are you, like myself a resident of Northern New Mexico?"

Not anymore, but I grew up in Santa Fe -- lived there from about 1981 or 1982 to 1992, after going to college various places was in ABQ from about 93-96, then in Santa Fe again (went to St John's College) until 1999, and I've been in Seattle ever since.

It's so nice to meet another GoodReader from the diaspora! Maybe someone's started a group here....
I am soooo happy to see you here! You are a dear friend, and although I know how to reach you via email, as far as I'm concerned the more places for contact, the better. Sushi and Liam have joined me here, although they are more interested in napping and eating and bathing than they are in helping me to sort things out in my LT library. We'll see how long it takes for me to figure out this site.....

Much love to you, from Sushi and Liam as well as from me. :)

And BTW, I just sent you a friend request. We'll see if you get it....
