About meHI,
I have a wide variety of interests, including a passion for books and manuscripts, especially ancient ones.
About my libraryMy Library
My library consists of a wonderfully eclectic mix of books and other related items. It includes non-fiction works related to my various interests, hobbies and collections and fictional works ranging from some of the latest best-selling novels to classical authors. It also includes a small group of rare books and manuscripts.
My LibraryThing Catalog
My LibraryThing catalog is a work in progress. I still have much cataloging to do.
I've gotten a good-bit of the easily accessible stuff entered. My next challenge is to tackle my books which have been packed away, including those cherished childhood favorites. Also, starting to expand it to include items such as records (in various formats), audio-tapes, CD's, VHS tapes, DVDs, photographic images (in various formats), maps and ephemera.
Having materials in various languages, especially non-English and non-Latin character items, presents its own set of cataloging challenges. Not being a linguist, can make detailed identification difficult and sometimes impossible. As these items are researched, they are being entered in the catalog. Though in some cases, the catalog descriptions are very general or limited to mostly descriptive information about the physical item.
My catalog lists mostly "books" which I own and are part of my library. Included in the catalog are also number of non-book items which are a part of my library. These items carry the tag realia.
Magazines, journals and similar publications are listed as "single" entries with the run dates and volume ranges noted.
Collections
Collections are currently organized in several different ways. These include various broad and more defined subject categories, time periods, culture, book format and binding types. Collections are still being refined and revised.
Please Note
Have fun exploring my catalog of books. There are books from my childhood, assorted textbooks, books on Natural History, Medicine, Science, Fossils, Palentology, History, Archaeology, Palaeography, Art and the History of Books in general.
Though, keep in mind, like many people, ones "library" tends to become almost an organic thing. Growing and expanding in many different ways over time as "books" enter it from a variety of sources. I have books in in over a dozen different languages, ancient and modern. Simply owning a book, does not necessarily mean I have read or can read it or in some cases, agree with, endorse or even have any interest in its contents or subject matter. It may simply be a book with an attractive binding or something I found in a box of books rescued from oblivion in the trash and didn't have the heart to get rid of it.
LibraryThing Default Book Covers
The selection of LibraryThing default book covers includes images of covers from four books in my library. Are you using one of them as your default book cover? Want to learn more about any of these books? They can be found listed in my LT catalog with the "LT default cover" tag. Also, each of the the book cover images shown below links to the book's details. I have included some additional information about the book and/or its binding in the Comments section.

Digital Images
A number of manuscripts and other items from my collection have been digitally imaged and are available for viewing on-line. A link in either the Review or Comments section of my LibraryThing catalog is provided for any item which has been imaged and is part of an on-line exhibit or image database.
To view an on-line exhibit of some of the ancient manuscripts and other items from my collection or to learn more about the history and archeology of books visit my Website, The Papyri Pages.
