I just read your review of [1776] and had to laugh out loud. It's exactly the reaction I had when I read [His Excellency: George Washington] by Ellis: It's also interesting to hear about George Washington. Even though everyone pretty much considers him to be the bomb now, i had no idea that he had no idea what he was doing and almost f'd it all up.
He really was a terrible general, but I guess he rates because he (1)was a stubborn SOB and wouldn't give up, and (2)stepped down from the Presidency. I wonder if he had any idea of the contribution he made by doing the latter.
