I was pleasantly surprised by your comment! When I wrote that book, I had in mind possibly writing about microcomputers and their languages for a living. Then I joined a software startup company and that plan kind of fell by the wayside.
I have downloaded and played with Inform and later TADS in the past - starting way back on my old Mac OS machines (Performa and early Mac OS 9 iMacs) but I never got around to using them to actually write games. My interest was more in implementation rather than end use.
Thanks for contacting me, and I would be interested to hear if the code still works on such systems as you mentioned.
