About my libraryThis really is my library -- books I have in bookshelves (or in piles near bookshelves), not books I've read. (Clearly, there're a lot of books I haven't read. I've had some of them for eight years... working on it!)

Ratings don't represent an objective, well-defined scale of literary merit (i.e., I don't actually think that "Declare" by Tim Powers is "as good a novel as" "Absalom, Absalom"). Rather, they're a measure of how strongly I'd recommend the book for any of many reasons (compared to other books by same author, in same genre, etc).

Ratings, where they exist, are highly weighted towards three or more stars; I don't have room to keep books I don't like unless they're so bad that they gain sentimental value ("Dr. Futurity" comes to mind, though I couldn't bring myself to keep "Galactic Effectuator").

Noticed that you liked The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). I thought you might like my novel since it's been compared to that novel by a number of reviewers. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Your copy of Catcher in the Rye can't find its family because it doesn't know who its author is.

The Nausicaa books are great! Have you seen the DVD release of the film. I recommend it highly.
