Hi phwtw ---

Sadly, I don't think I can be of much help here. I'm bilingual so I read Novalis in German. I checked my favorite critics who have written about Novalis (not too much, though), and they also work with the original, not with a translation.

Sometimes, trying to find a "good," or at least "satisfying," translation for poetry can become Mission Impossible. That's really a bummer. Myself, I've been looking for decent translations of modern French poetry for ages, and next year or so I might give learning the language instead a shot!

But keep trying. Reading Novalis is rewarding, for sure!

I thought I was the general reader par excellence, but you have taken me to school. Thanks. I love your library,it's a portal to a most intriguing mind.
