Intersting links:
There is an insteresting project going on: the idea is to add to LibraryThing the personal libraries of dead luminaries and famous authors. It all started with member LolaWalser, who entered the library of poet Danilo Kiš (1935-1989). Jefferson and John Adams have also been proposed and are in "work in progress". Hello, extremely interesting initiative (I see dead people's book). I'll put it as a subject on LT in French. I wonder what Jefferson was reading. Cookery books? Will go and look.
You are the only member on LT that has listed François Place's Les Derniers Géants. I bought this book for a child. I've kept it for myself, such was the pull of it...Happy to meet another Place's fan.
Great idea, the Bigger Cover. When I increased my Currently Reading book image, thinking it'd make the title more legible, the opposite was true since the print quality decreased. So, how to do it? And how to rig it so that title, author,& Bigger Cover links are to upper right of cover image, like yours, instead of in a long awkward horizontal line at the bottom like mine? Thanks - ER
Hi pivox, very helpful and attractive page you've got here. I so like the way you have both a cover pic and link for Currently Reading, that I'm going to visit the other links you've provided to see if I can figure out how to copy your Currently Reading example on my own profile. Thanks! ER
Hi pivox,

Hmm, yes it's not good at preserving entities like ∓ - if I have anything that I'm likely to want to edit I keep a copy in a plain text file on my computer, then I can edit that and paste it back into LT when I need to. Bob
Hi pivox,

You need something to force the next few empty lines. Nothing 'conventional' is still allowed. Try repeating &nbsp;<br /> once for each empty line. Bob
Hi pivox,

Oh, too much of a rush, your example had a couple of covers so I left them both in. Delete the last four lines then add enough empty lines to push the next paragraph below the image. The 'clear:both' should do it but I haven't found a way to have it work properly.

Bob
Hi pivox,

Fiddly but this more or less seems to work. You may have to pad with extra line breaks to get it to look tidy.

The HTML commands in angle brackets on my page are not just plain text: they are created using the code for the symbols. If I didn't type the code in each time I edited the profile, it would get interpreted and then change into the symbol itself, and then next time the symbol would be interpreted, and the HTML would be enacted.
You can get to specific parts of a page if they have a label. Putting #label_name at the end of the URI will jump you there. To find out what labels are on a page, you need to view the page source (use VIEW from the menu bar) and then look for things in DIV or A statements that come after the ID=. (Please note - I don't know this stuff for fact - it just seems to work for me, and that doesn't guarantee that it's the correct thing to do, or will work everywhere.)

Thanks for the reference to my profile on your page.

That stats counter looks interesting - I'll investigate.

Because of the HTML I've got on my profile, I need to store it as a document, and load it again every time I change my profile, so beware if you try and do fancy stuff.
Hi pivox,

w3schools.com is an excellent resource for all things web they have both reference materials and tutorials. I'd also recommend downloading an html editor like NVU (free from nvu.org) and just playing around a bit, it has a drag an drop wysiwyg interface (IIRC) and you can flip tabs to see the source code.

Bob
Hi pivox,

Yes, technically it's possible, but not from a LibrayThing profile, and not with a simple link. You'd have to add in a bit of JavaScript I think and I know that's banned from LT. There are many write-ups on teh web, here's one I found through Google http://www.javascripter.net/faq/openinga...

Good luck

Bob
Hi pivox,

add the attribute target="_blank" inside the <a . . . /> tags and that should have the link open in a new window.

Bob
Hi pivox,

Sorry, looks like Tim has shut down the code on the profile page. It was always tighter than the Talk pages but a few months ago someone 'complained' about it being too open and Tim made both much tighter. But he never(?) posts exactly what's allowed, and I can't be bothered to repeat all the experiments I ran first time around.

Yes, you can make the box narrower, easiest is probably to add width:100px; or width:20%; to the style statements (pick your own width by trial & error probably).

Bob
Hi pivox, Here's the code that you wanted. I'm not certain that it will show up properly here so fingers crossed:

<div style="border:1px solid silver;padding:6px;">some text . . .</div>

Basically it's just a little style statement. The 'border:' bit gives the width, style & color and the 'padding:' bit leaves a margin around the text.
