About meEach of the 24 books I've written for young readers (and the young at heart!) reflect my interest in our natural world. I've written several biographies about people who have helped improve our environmental and social awareness, including John Muir, Rachel Carson, and Cesar Chavez. I also enjoy being a "science detective." It is fun to learn about animals, where they live, and why. And then I put my favorite animals in my books. As a California native, I often write about my state and western American history, especially young pioneers who traveled west by covered wagon.
