Groups50 Book Challenge, What Are You Reading Now?

About meI've been keeping track of everything I've read since January 2005. 120 books later (not very impressive compared to most people on this site!) someone told me about LT and I love it. I'm 19, go to college in Rochester, New York, and a fun and very easily amused person. When I'm not reading, I'm playing/singing/listening to music.

About my libraryI've read more than the 70ish books that are in my library, but I'm only putting in the ones I'd recommend to people, which usually means 4-5 star books. Also, these are only the books I've read since January 2005.

Noticed you liked Ordinary People, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my book since it's also about a dysfunctional family struggling with death and mental illness. I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm out of physical copies at the moment). Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

Thanks,

Yeah, me too.
I live in Lincoln too.
It's kinda sad, but Omaha's always felt too big for me.
I read most of His Dark Materials quite a few years ago, recently I re-read the golden compass which I really liked, and it was a quick read. The first time I read the series I really enjoyed the first two but I could never finish the third, I think there were too many storylines going on a once and I wasn't as excited about the new world they were in. However, I am going to try and re-read the 2nd and 3rd as well becasue they are very quick reads and maybe this time around I will enjoy the last book more. As for the Begariad and Mallorean series, I loved these! I try to consider myself not a fantasy geek but I was very involved in both of these epics. I highly recommend them, but be ready for an epic (or 2!), I'm not exactly sure how they compare to other fantasy books, but coming from someone who doesn't read a lot of fantasy series liek these, I loved them!
Son of a Witch was pretty good, but I had to put it down and pick it up a few times before I finished it. It has many of the same characters as Wicked does, like Liir, Chistery, and the Animals, but doesn't really discuss Elphaba much; it's Liir's story. It's not as political as I felt Wicked was, and I think it chronicles the passage of time better. When I read Wicked, the sections skipped entire years and I got so confused! Both books are really dense, but I think Son of a Witch is a worthwhile read. The best book I've read by Gregory Maguire, however, is Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister.
Thanks for the poisonwood bible recommendation, that will be one of my next books. I saw you read son of a witch, how did you like it? I've read Wicked and I liked it for the most part, but I'm curious how the sequel is.....
