About meI just turned 40 and am re-reading alot of books, some of them I haven't read in 20 years. I have a terrible addiction to Nikolai Gogol's Dead Souls, and have probably read it 15 times. I am posting only books I rate 5 stars.

About my library"I like Chopin and Bizet, and the voice of Doris Day,
Gershwin songs and old forgotten carols.
But the music that excels is the sound of oil wells
as they slurp, slurp, slurp into the barrels."

I just finished "The Collected Fiction of Bruce Jay Friedman". I know I communicated with you before about him so I thought I would let you know that it was a great book. The stories were very short for the most part and there were lots of them. His creativity astounds me. I am so glad to get back into him. I will continue to do my best to spread the word about him. Not sure if you had read it already. Noticed that you have done some Lorrie Moore books. I have read some by her including her latest which I recommend.
I read Bruce Jay Friedman extensively back in the late 70's and early 80's. I think I read something by him within the last few years. I always enjoyed all of his books. I miss his type of humor. David Sedaris, Sloane Crosley, and Nora Ephron are authors that I like to read for that light hearted humorous book. Usually I am more about serious books. Good to know that there are. Bruce Jay Friedman fans out there. If you have anything in the humor category, please let me know. I will check out your reading list and see if there are things that I might want to read. I am retired and have lots of time so I am good for 50-60 books a year. I am going to spend more time on this website exploring the various book groups and try to connect more to people who read the books that I do. It is always good to exchange opinions on books. I do review every book that I read and then have them also post to my facebook wall. Social networking, what would we do without it.

Rick, thanks for the kind comments about my "Slaughterhouse-Five" review. Much appreciated.

In a few days, I'll be reading Kurt's Conversations! Thank you. For the past couple months I've been wrapped up in 'Healing the Gerson Way by Charlotte Gerson, Knockout by Suzanne Somers, The China Study by Campbell chased down by a few pages every now and again of the God Delusion or Consciousness of Physics - I read about as slowly as I drink my coffee.... Thanks for the review. That book sounds like just what I need right now.
Oh my. This is going to be fun.
p.s. your untidy library pic gives me hope.
I meant "reads" !
Thanks for your review of Vox. it added to the pleasure of memory if that makes sense. What otyher similar eads would you recommend, if you have the time.
Thanks for your comment. I may try the new V&P translation at some point, as I do like to have a lot of historical context. John
