I totally agree about your Twilight comments. I think they are kind of like Twinkies -- addictive, perhaps, but overall a bunch of empty calories. I can see their value as a stepping stone into the literary world -- I'm glad that they are getting kids to start reading -- but I can only hope that someday they will progress onto truly great books. I want to tell them they don't know what they are missing out on. Or maybe I just selfishly don't want to see the Twilight logo splashed on every piece of merchandise known to man. Does the world really need a puzzle of Edward Cullen's face (or a shower curtain, for that matter).
