About meI was born in Devon, UK, and educated at Exeter School and the University of Exeter where I graduated in Modern Social and Economic History. I worked for fourteen years at the headquarters of the Department of Industry advising Government ministers on the development of industrial policy and lecturing to students at the Henley Management College. Since my return to the West Country in 1984, I have worked as a presenter with BBC Radio Devon, acted as a tutor for the Methodist Church, trained in online teaching with the University for Industry as well as completing my thirteenth book. Languages into which my biographies have been published include German, Spanish, French, Norwegian, Swedish, Serbo-Croat, Chinese, Indonesian, Korean and Urdu. I was the founding chairman of the South West branch of the Association of Christian Writers and am a member of the Society of Authors.

From 1985 to 2006, I was a trustee of the Bible Society and chairman of the Society's Research Grants Committee. I am a contributor to Oxford University Press's New Dictionary of National Biography and was commissioned to produce a special book to mark the bicentenary of the Bible Society in 2004. I currently work as an online tutor for a college of further education in Somerset and am working on further books.
