I just added Andrew Hill / Point of Departure (Bluenote, CDP 7-84167-2, 1988 my copy) and saw we shared this recording in LT. Then I clicked on 'ryab' and saw the Time cover -- I used to have that cover taped to a wall -- and then searched your library for Monk, Coltrane, Miles, Evans (Gil and Bill) and figured we share similar appreciations for the music. I've got many of 'Trane's recordings mostly Impulse LPs, same with Monk's Riverside LPs, and even Andrew Hill's LPs on BN. Also have a web site devoted to home town jazz hero, Scott LaFaro -- Google 'Scott LaFaro' and the URL should be close to the top of the list: "Beacon For Jazz Bassists". Thinking of adding more music but find it takes more time to search for a decent bibl record with good 'discographical' data.

Just picked up the Andrew Hill's Departure from a shelf this morning to listen to while driving to work -- haven't listened to this in years, decades -- some nice horn ensemble writing: Joe Henderson, KD, and Dolphy. 'Spectrum' stands out -- shades of Monk, but then it stands alone, all recorded 31 March 1964 at Van Gelder's -- nearly 44 years ago. I was a student in Paris in 1964 and heard Eric Dolphy play at Le Chameleon. A few weeks afterward I heard that he died while playing in Berlin.

Just a quick note to let you know how honored I am that you added Mystery Date: One Gal's Guide to Good Stuff to your library. I loved writing/publishing these little pink beauties, and am so glad they're not forgotten. I've gone ahead and uploaded their cover images in case you're interested.

Many thanks, and all best,
Lynn Peril
hello, do I know you? looking at your library i see that we share several mutual interests, most notably zines and cultural studies of science/reproductive rights/medicine (i'm an ex-history of science grad student whose former research interests included the history and ethics of contraceptive research).

also you're the first person i've seen on here with a substantial zine collection. i haven't added my zines yet but have been thinking about it. perhaps i will just copy a bunch of your records since we share a lot of the same stuff.

plus you're the only other person on librarything with a copy of "engaging science"! did you go to wesleyan?
i can't imagine how anyone else would know about joe rouse. he was one of my favorite profs. . .

anyway, i'm curious about your dissertation and whether or not you've made a decision either way about academia, so if you feel like dropping me a line sometime please email freecycleseawa@gmail.com.
