About meRising-50 bibliophile...I can't help it, it's always been this way! You know, from reading under the covers with a torch, to a house whose pillars are piles of books. Married to an equally book-obsessed man, with one son who avoids reading if he can help it. Just don't talk to me about role-modelling: what a big load of phooey! But he teaches me a lot about being funny, cricket, Yu-gi-oh, computer games and pop culture (like why you need a mobile phone for everything other than making phone calls)

In another life I was a school librarian - in various places in Sydney, and then in Dorset in England for a couple of years. Nowadays I'm a researcher.

I'm not one of these people who dread the idea of retirement. I can't wait. I'm hoping then there'll be time to do everything: make cards and ATCs, travel (everywhere - there will be a huge lottery win to enable this), swim every day at a time other than 5:30am, read, play on the computer even more, and continue being an obsessive photo-blogger.

About my libraryThere isn't a room in the house without books. I just went into the laundry, and sure enough...(hey, I found that book I was looking for).

The ratio of Read:TBR is a constant worry, but nature abhors a vaccuum, so if a space appears in the bedroom shelves (all the TBRs), it MUST be filled.

Noticed you liked Vernon God Little, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here as well as a few other book-related sites. Thought you might like my novel since it's also southern (and a bit dark). I could e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like (I'm currently out of physical copies). If you're interested, send me your e-mail address (mine is mail@christophertusa.com), and I'll send you the e-book. Here's a link to a summary (and a sample chapter) in case you'd like to read more about the book before you commit:

Hello, Sally. I dropped by to thank you for your very effective review of The Towers of Trebizond.....another to add to my BUY and READ list. As I have begun to do when I visit Aussies at LT, I checked to see whether you have any Patrick White. I'm relieved to see that you do..... I'd be proud to claim him as a national treasure if he were American.

Hi, I just joined this site. I noticed that you're a Da Vinci Code fan. Have you read Synarchy? Here's a link: www.synarchynovel.com/
Dear Sally,

Thanks for your comment on china. You have been to China in 1978? That's great!
How do you like China?
Dear Sally,

Thanks for all your reviews the 96 Everest disaster and mountaineering. I find it fascinating as well. I suppose what the books are really about is human frailty, resilience and fallibility. Have you tried to dissect your fascination with the subject? I've just finished Bourkreev's account and am trying to reconcile it with Krakauer's perspective. - Nancy
Cheers Sally, have added the cover :)
Hello Sally,

I really like your review of Towers of Trebizond. I've always thought that book was hard to describe without putting one or another person off. The spiritual elements seem to be difficult for me to describe without making my listerner think it's some kind of religious book - literary people seem to be worried that Rose Macaulay is some kind of British Billy Graham. You've pulled of a review that touches on the many and varied attractions of the book. Good work.

Susan
Hello Sally,

Many thanks for the cover. I see you're in Sydney - I'm in Melbourne.

Cheers,

Mandy
