I see you are an Agatha Christie fan. My son is an avid collector of her books. He has just been introduced to them in the past year.
Hi Sanja! I broke my rule about not recommending books to my book group that I haven't read and switched to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society... Now I'm worrying that that book is going to be way too sweet, but wanted something fairly light for everyone to read over Christmas break. Want to say again, I don't think you sounded too angry in your review; you were reacting to a character's actions which (I think) is what makes reading so satisfying--to make that personal connection with your own life, or to imagine the effects of such actions on real people. I can't imagine reading any other way! Happy Holidays and happy reading! Bonnie

I use a website called dailylit.com that sends portions to you in email form. It's very good for catching on classics. You can also buy other books to read only for a lot cost. It's pretty cool.
About Twilight, I read the book because I see my students (I teach at a boarding school for high school girls)walking around reading this book or clutching it to their chests. Honestly, that is the only reason that I even continued to read this book. Believe me, if you get reading and wonder if it gets any better--no it does not. Bella keeps gushing over this "boy" because he is so good looking. Bella needs to wake up and realize that if you need to lie to your father and your friends about the relationship---it is not right. And Edward is really and older man--a really older man---he should not be dating a teenage girl. And that is not even getting into the vampire thing.---On top of that the book is not written that well. Give it a try---lots of people like it---I sure don't. The movie is coming out in November----I think I'll go alone---I can't image a male wanting to read the book let alone wanting to see the movie. Alice
I saw your comment on a thread about reading To Kill a Mockingbird for a Southern Lit Book Club. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the few books I read every year or so. Is the book club an online club or one you attend? I'd love to read southern literature with a group. I tried the Deep South group here, but it's very sporatic.

Have a wonderful weekend.
yes, I am on the same page with jfetting and jhedlund, it is sad but Bernieres either lost the desire or inspiration as everything blends to mediocre towards the end of Corelli's Mandolin.

Sanja, if you like to cook you may check www.belgradeandbeyond.com

The burger issue is great too! The raspberry yogurt cake turned out beautifully. I have a very generous friend who is helping me learn to cook, and she bought me a subscription for Bon Appetit for Christmas. I really like the magazine. Some of the recipes call for ingredients that are a little beyond my food budget (rack of lamb?) but everything recipe I've tried has been fantastic. The burger on the cover, the chipotle cheddar burger, is awesome.

Also, I completely agree w/ jhedlund's comment. The last 100 pages of Corelli's Mandolin almost ruined the book. Now, when I go back and re-read it, I just stop when WWII ends. That's how the book SHOULD have ended.
I just had to write you because I saw your post about Corelli's Mandolin on the "Clunkers" thread, and I COULD NOT AGREE MORE! That could have been one of my all-time favorite books were it not for the last 100 pages. I posted a review on LT about it. SUCH a disappointment. It's like the author completely fell apart and forgot who all his characters were and what their history was. That book is still on my shelf, and I seethe whenever I pass by it - but I can't bear to let it go... Tragic.
Thanks for the feedback. [The Quiet American] is on my TBR list--and will be bumped up!
Thank you for the compliment :)
