it's the kind of book that pretends to be saying more important things than it really is. plus there's this weird undercurrent of upper crust being better than working class which I found distasteful. the working class literally having a genetic disorder.
don't read Saturday by Ian McEwan... just don't. ugh, i hated that book
my library just got in the sequel: Blacksad: A Silent Hell... reading it now
Glad you like it. I'm sad more people haven't read it.
I just checked out A Naked Singularity (per your suggestion on the SS page). Looks like another one that I would really like. I've got it on my Amazon wishlish for now. The next time I've got enough points to buy a couple books, I'll be grabbing it. Thanks (yet again)!
You're very welcome, Santee! I was worried about getting you Norwegian Wood (over a couple of other Murakami's) , so I'm happy to hear that it's one that you wanted. Phew!

Merry Christmas to you, and I hope your 2013 is filled with lots of great reading!

Thank you very much for the LTSS selections. They all look great (and right up my alley)! I hadn't picked up Ghost World previously because I'd seen the movie and figured I'd get to it eventually, but it fell off my radar. I just skimmed through it and realized that I've been missing something grand. I started reading the Muriel Spark book, being the smallest, when I had a moment's rest yesterday, and I think I'm going to love it. And the others (Remainder and Dublinesque) look like they're going to be a lot of fun as well. Thanks again. Great selections. Much appreciated!
Yes... I really really really loved the beginning with all the nerdy pretentiousness, but it lost a really really by the end. I still really like the book, but I wasn't digging the whole suspense thing. I missed the pretentiousness.
Not yet, I had to read another book first as it was due. Now I am reading it.
okay, okay, it's waiting for me at work tomorrow
Yeah, that sounds like a book I'll love. I'll add it to my holds list at the library.
Don't think I have read it. Who is it by?
So I finally read Perdido Street Station. It was good, the ending just sort of happened and that bothered me, but I liked the drama and pacing of the rest. My biggest problem is with Lin, she was pretty superfluous... I can't think of any way in which she advanced the plot or character development. Also I think Mosley was underdeveloped as a villain.
You should read A Canticle for Leibowitz... I think everyone should read A Canticle for Leibowitz.
Good, I'm glad you liked it. Have you started on any Fforde titles?
Well, the Thursday Next series is the longest and has the most literary cameos and in jokes (begins with The Eyre Affair). The nursery rhyme crimes books (begins with The Big Over Easy) is a bit more insane. I'll admit I haven't gotten to read Shades of Grey, but I really want to. From what I've heard from other people, people who read books appreciate the Thursday Next series more than the others. Honestly though, in my opinion you can't go wrong.
Yeah, I know how you feel. I haven't read anything else by him because of how weird Perdido Street Station is.
the graphic novels all came from jessica as a birthday/christmas/graduation (my eventual one) gift.
yes, I have abandoned several books, but some of those just take a while to get through as I only read them bits at a time. No I haven't read Blankets. I think I tried at one point and didn't like it and so put it down. I can't believe it's that popular.
you would think that, but you'd be wrong. a lot of those are one's I started and just did not finish.
ah yes I wondered where that ended up at! i went looking for that and when it wasn't there I got curious, but I have no memory of lending it out. Of course, that's true with most of the books I lend out.
A) love the idea of an interlibrary loan system between us. B) You have a couple of mine? How did that happen? My books end up all over and i never know who has them.
all these books and we only share 21 how sad
