About me I'm an author of literary fiction, speculative fiction (science fiction and fantasy) and poetry. I was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, UK. My family emigrated to New Zealand when I was two years old. I grew up in Southland, lived for 17 years in Dunedin, and now live in Wellington, New Zealand. Currently, I write part-time and work part-time as the marketing manager for a web company. My recent books are All Blacks' Kitchen Gardens, a poetry collection published by HeadworX, and Anarya's Secret, a fantasy novel published by RedBrick. My short story collection Transported will be published by Random House New Zealand in June 2008.
About my library I started by uploading a selection of books from my library, reflecting my three main areas of reading: science fiction and fantasy, literary fiction (especially Russian and Spanish-language fiction in translation), and poetry - especially New Zealand poetry and European and South American poetry in translation. I've also got a bunch of cricket books, books about Antarctica, and science fiction fanzines. I'm gradually going through my book collection, disposing of those I no longer wish to keep, and cataloguing the rest. Most of the books listed, I own; books I don't own are tagged with the name of the library from which I borrowed them. Unread books, and books written by me, are tagged but not rated.

I only wrote a couple of paragraphs on Asimov's passing, linking to your post instead. You can find what I wrote here: http://ninehermits.blogspot.com/2008/03/master-moves-on.html.

Thank you - I am just getting my library sorted out - recataloguing as I do so -to make a big move from Hong Kong. Partly to Auckland - in August -(with a selection of my books for various projects I want to do) and partly to the Philippines, my ultimate homebase.
I have to make an extra effort right now as I have about 14000 books in my library. Only part of this will get done in this next 16 weeks. The fiction and some other large sections will have to wait until my house is ready in the Philippines in 18 months or so.
I'm glad that some people may get pleasure of my efforts. This system is really exactly what I have been looking for. Sidekick worked reasonably well for the last 10 years or so but it is no longer supported and was not intended as a library system.
Keep in touch

I was meant to be in Wellington last year at the time the Winter Readings were scheduled but something came up and I was unable to go. The booklets are as close as I could get.
I discovered the event in 2005 quite by accident and thought it was wonderful. I like the 'vibe' in Wellington, there's a zinginess about the entire art scene there that Christchurch seems to lack - or maybe I've just become too used to things here.
On a different note, a rather strange coincidence receiving your comment when I logged in this morning, I'd just ordered your short story collection 'Extreme Weather Events' from Books New Zealand. I wish I'd logged into LT first now.
Take care,
Frances

I added your library as interesting because
(a) you have a joint interest in speculative fiction and poetry and so do I - it's not so common
(b) I was very interested in your review of Anna Akhmatova's poetry (I dont know how I found the review now...) - I will try and read some
(c) The kiwi connection is always cool - I lived in Auckland for 10 years (in Brisbane now)
I'm building up my library gradually - I hope you'll drop by occasionally. I'm sure I'll drop by again for ideas

Hm, I write poetry, and lit. fiction short stories myself. Although I'm a bit slow at present (at present is a loose term for the last few years ~rolling eyes at self~). Had some poetry published here and there...

Thanks for the IL nod. It's a rare thing to find a person with an equal interest in lit. fiction and fantasy, though I find the two genres often have more in common than most people suspect.
Cheers,
K

You are the first New Zealand contact for me - which is rather wonderful as I am an ex-Kiwi living in exile. I also emigrated from England - although I was 12 on arrival and had to deal with alot of flack in the school yard with my POMMIE accent!
I am flattered that you are interested in my library - although I note that you share only 9 books. I was recently in Waikanae with my parents visiting this Christmas - so had a chance to persue some of the Kiwi shelves and picked up a Janet Frame new release, and the latest Christopher Koch fiction.
What is the name of your publication(s)?
Nice to meet you.
