About meI have loved books and stories since before I could read myself, and having a personal library was something my parents strongly encouraged as I was growing up. To help foster a love of reading (and owning) books, my parents absorbed half the cost of any book I bought until I graduated from high school (though at some point along the line it was restricted to "any hardcover").

My reading preferences have tended towards fantasy and science fiction for years, but I'll give pretty much anything that looks interesting (or comes to me highly recommended) a try.

About my libraryI am still in the process of cataloging my library. A good-sized portion of it is still in boxes in the attic at my parents' house, and getting them catalogued is slow work. While I can add some titles from memory, I don't dare rely on that for all of them.

Additionally, I am still working on standardising the tags I use and getting all my catalogued books into the proper collections I have defined. The collection sorting in particular is a very manual process since very little of the information I am sorting by was included in tags.

I've been on a bit of a fantasy run for a while and am looking for a good read of the historical fiction type. I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks for accepting my friends invitation.
If you enjoy the Redwall Books you will enjoy a brand new author I have discovered . . Ren Meves and her first book is House of Brick. I found it on amazon. Try it and let me know what you think. GRJO
Thanks so much for you help on Segur's Snow Queen. I am going to continue looking for a copy of the newer version now that I know it is out there. It's funny - you can find dozens and dozens of the 1961 version on used book sites, but not a single newer copy except for two on amazon.uk that are ridiculously priced (they are more than $500!! I am willing to pay up to $150 or so, because I really want a copy with newer and nicer illustrations, but I could never go that high.
Hi, I notice you have a copy of Adrienne Segur's Snow Queen. I was wondering: is your copy a 2001 reprint or the 1961 version? I ask because I want to buy myself a copy, but I think I would prefer the more recent, 2001, version and yet I can find it absolutely nowhere, not a single used book store sells it. I have begun to suspect it was never published in 2001, but perhaps only intended to be published. It's hard for me to believe there aren't any used copies out there. So I thought I'd ask those on librarything who have one which copy they have. If no one has the 2001 version, it would make the case stronger and I would just order the older copy. Thanks for your help. Sorry to go on so long....Cindy
So jealous about your large collection!
I'm so impressed at you having two (of my favourite) Australian authors on your favourite author list, and mentioning a third (John Flanagan) in a recommendation, and not living in Australia. Did you know we're up to book seven in Ranger's Apprentice here?
Thanks for letting me know. I hadn't been paying attention to the ups and downs of From Far Away. Perhaps a disambiguation notice on the author wouldn't be amiss, though I probably wouldn't have seen that.

I get the feeling I'll be having a similar battle with the new Parasyte printing from Del Rey. I'll have to check, but I swear that Del Rey is putting in more chapters per volume than Tokyopop did for the first editions.
