About meBit of a hermit, really. Love to be outdoors if there's something to do: yardwork, art or music festivals, Scarborough Faire, swimming.
Travel quite a bit for work, not so much for pleasure. Mostly, love to spend time at home with my cats. Yes, I'm the "maiden aunt with cats" type.
Love to read but not done as much lately. However, I've recently added a few to my TBR pile and am slowly working it down.
About my libraryI have loved to read since sometime before kindergarten. It was frustrating for me that they didn't teach kids to read until 1st grade back then.
In 4th grade we got rid of the book mobile and got a proper library. By the end of 6th grade I had read every fiction book in that library & was more than ready to move on to the bigger & better Jr High one, where I immediately discovered my love for Science Fiction.
In 5th grade I vowed that when I grew up I would have a library room in my house & would have read every single book in it. I hardly ever took books out from the school or public library, and still have all the books I bought in grade school & Jr High through Schoolastic books. There are only a handful of books in my library today that are unread or remain partially read.
My tastes are somewhat eclectic. My first love is Science Fiction with some Fantasy thrown in for fun. YA books are a great favorite and I've also found some Contemporary Fiction to my liking. I love to cook and do some gardening so have scads of cookbooks and garden books.
Science Fiction, though, has helped to define me as a person. I love to be made to think, learn new things, and have my beliefs challenged.
I tend to read the works of a particular author and collect as many books by them as possible. For the most part, my collection is made up of used books. Hard for me to justify paying for a brand new book when you can get one for 1/2 price, especially if reading several a month. And used books have so much more character. That said, there is something special in being the first to open and read a new book.
