About me I'm a middle school librarian in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. Most of the books that I read are middle school and/or young adult books, though I do find time to read the occasional "adult" novel. My favorite YA authors include Patrick Jones, John Green, Darren Shan, Neal Shusterman, Janet Tashjian and Stephenie Meyer. My "adult" favorites are Harlan Ellison, John Irving, Mick Foley, Stephen King, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Richard Matheson. I also review books for VOYA, so occasionally books I read for that will appear here. Beyond books, I am very interested in music. My musical favorites are Meat Loaf (see my pic from a backstage tour at a Meat Loaf show in 2005), Kasim Sulton, Paul Thorn, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Lou Reed, The Alarm, The Dead Milkmen and everything 80's. I am also active in pediatric heart defects awareness and dachshund rescue.

About my library My library serves 5th to 9th grade students in a dropout prevention school. The most popular books in my library this school year have been manga, anime or graphic novels and all vampire and/or werewolf fiction.

Glad to make you laugh! I would say that for a starter "Neverwhere" is your best bet. You would probably also like Good Omens, though that's a collaboration with Terry Pratchett. But Neverwhere is still my favorite, it's a compelling story with unique characters, well told. (After that American Gods, though that is probably daunting for a newbie, and then Anansi Boys - but you need to read American Gods before Anansi Boys.) Enjoy! I always wish I could read my favorite books again for the first time, so I envy you. :-)
thanks so much for your feedback! It's great to see a book in action (or hear about it) :) Sara
