About meMy interests are varied: literature, history, religion, music (everything from reggae to bluegrass to classical to rock to everything in between), sports (college football and soccer are my two great loves), travel, film (everything from Chinese drama to American comedy).

About my libraryJust because I read a book doesn't mean I agree with or endorse its ideas. I've always been a proponent of reading a wide array of ideas.

As far as ratings go, I rate a book for what it is. A four star book of haiku about Spam can't be compared with a four star biography about a religious figure or a history of a country or a football team. I'm rating "within genre" if you will.

Thanks for the recommendation, I got it and finished it recently. It did leave me wondering how much things have continued to change since the '02 World Cup and the turnaround in the Japanese economy, since an undercurrent of the book seemed to be how not only was soccer being changed in Japan but how Japan itself was undergoing a transformation.

Thanks again for the information!
Do you have any specific thoughts on Ultra Nippon - it seemed like it might be interesting but it's obviously sort of hard to find in the US?

You also have quite a collection on Orthodox topics, impressive!
