Right now, since I'm only through book 2 of the Saxon Chronicles, I still like Thomas of Hookton better. Uhtred became really arrogant in the Pale Horseman and less likeable, though he started to come around by the end of the book. I loved his character in the first novel, so I'm hoping he'll start to shine again in the next two. Cornwell does a great job of writing flawed characters, and I love that about his writing.

As for ASOIF by Martin, I'm on about page 550 in Feast for Crows, and nothing too significant has happened yet. It is dragging a bit. Storm of Swords is by far the best in the series, in my opinion.

And you're right about the lag time between novels. It is frustrating for readers. I hear the next book A Dance with Dragons will be coming out in Spring 2009 now. It was supposed to be this fall but I guess it got pushed back again.

Always nice to find other fans of Cornwell and Martin. I'm currently finishing up the Saxon Chronicles. Still have Lords of the North and Sword Song to read. What's your favorite series by Cornwell? I also still have A Feast for Crows left to read before Dance with Dragons comes out. How did you like Feast for Crows compared to the other three?
