If I'm not mistaken, Alexei met you at a conference this weekend? It looks like we have some tastes in common!
Alexei mentioned that you're interested in depictions of business in period fiction, so I thought I would list a few relatively obscure books with business/econ themes in case any of them are new to you. Based on your library, I think you'd find most of these enjoyable, and they're mostly available on Project Gutenberg as well:
Frances Hodgson Burnett, "That Lass O' Lowrie's" and "Haworth's"
Booth Tarkington, "The Turmoil" and "Rumbin Galleries"
Holman Day, "King Spruce"
Clarence Kelland, "Scattergood Baines"
Kathleen Norris, "The Treasure"
Paul Leicester Ford, "The Honorable Peter Stirling"
Charles Reade, "Hard Cash" and "Put Yourself in His Place" (I just rated "Put Yourself in His Place," and my library listing includes an excerpt of his description of a trade union dispute)
E. P. Roe, "What Can She Do?" and "Barriers Burned Away"
I would also particularly recommend Nevil Shute's "Ruined City" -- in addition, of course, to "A Town Like Alice") -- and you might also enjoy Russell Kirk's collection of ghost stories, "Ancestral Shadows." Finally, although Trollope is not exactly obscure, I wanted to mention his longish short story or short novella, "Why Frau Frohmann Raised Her Prices," just in case you've missed it in his voluminous oeuvre.
Best wishes,
Arianne

You need to convince the powers to put "The American Nation", and other "coming soons" on the LT Early Reviewer Programs.
