About mePoet, writer, journalist.

During the day I am the managing editor at Rue Morgue Magazine, where I handle the books and video game departments. Yes, I'm book-nerd, a horror-book-nerd, in fact.

At night, you're likely to find me working on my second book of poetry, THE SICK AND THE BEAUTIFUL, and THE COLD ONES, a horror trilogy for teens. I am currently serializing BLEEDER, a YA vampire novel that takes place in the same universe as THE COLD ONES at http://www.bleederbook.com and http://www.wattpad.com/3024545-bleeder. New chapters are posted every Sunday.

My first poetry collection, SOME WORDS SPOKEN, was co-written with Cynthia Gould and released in 2002.

I am also the editor-in-chief of Burning Effigy Press which published the Bram Stoker Award-nominated novelette Redemption Roadshow (by Weston Ochse), Bram Stoker Award-nominated novelette General Slocum's Gold (by Nicholas Kaufmann), as well as works by Nate Southard, Lee Thomas, Ian Rogers, Michael Louis Calvillo, Gemma Files, Steve Vernon, Liisa Ladouceur, Timothy Carter, Adebe D.A., Jeff Cottrill, Dane Swan, Brett Alexander Savory and Gord Zajac, and more!

About my libraryMostly horror and YA books, but also contains a fair dosage of general fiction, pop culture books, sci-fi (particularly cyberpunk), non-fiction, classic lit and poetry. I love my library, I've been building it since I was grade school - the first book I bought for it was a first edition hardcover of Stephen King's Pet Sematary when I was 11 (which I got King to sign when I met him last year). My dream "home office" is a room with bookshelves lining all four walls and a desk in the centre. And it is closer to happening than ever before!

Saw you liked Trainspotting, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in reviewing my new novel and posting your comments here (as well as on a few other book-related sites). Thought you might like it since it's also about a group of disturbed kids and a bit dark. I'd be glad to e-mail you the novel in an e-book format if you'd like. Let me know if you're interested. Here's a link to a summary in case you're interested:

"The highest level of creativity consists in being, not doing. When the being is intense enough, when the words are spoken enough, when the thoughts are thought enough, the doing will automatically follow."

--Marianne Williamson
Great photo! And I love that image of your future office... best wishes in making that a reality. Cheers! -- Mike
