Yes, we have a daughter adopted from China and we are a Christian family also. I too have found interesting books on your list that I've added to my "to read" list. It's nice to "meet" you!

One of the best books I've ever read on Left/Right/Center Christians is Brian McLauren's Generous Orthodoxy. It was a life changing book for me, and I have spoken on it and recommended it in a number of talks. I'm reading Eugene Peterson (one of my favorite writers)'s The Jesus Way as well right now. I'm preparing for a retreat in April that will cover the Gospel of Luke, what Jesus taught about the Hebrew scripture concept of Jubilee, and The Jesus Way makes a very nice parallel. I think I'm a just plain Christian, but I notice Jesus when faced with a decision that was between a rule/regulation or a real live person, usually favored fixing/redeeming/healing/encouraging the person. And it hasn't escaped my attention that the group of people who gave him the most grief and appeared to make him maddest was the religious leaders of his day -- I think he could see so much better things they could be doing and saying. I have some difficulty understanding the topology of the church in North America.
Can you help me with an explanation of "Christian Left"?
Greetings,
Andrew
