Thanks Mike, I hadn't heard of Sanders but he sounds great. I found Hedgemaids at a nearby library and should have a copy of it in a couple of days.
We don't have flowers quite yet but the trees are budding and the grass is getting greener by the day. And I was happy to see that we have a new friend... a nuthatch has apparently just made his home in a high dead branch of the ash tree right next to our driveway.

I actually found the Nahanni cover online, and just copied and uploaded it. It is a great book, isn't it!
Mike,
I don't know about BB on eBay but I do know Dr. Martin. I've attended the School of Mines field camp for the last five years. And this past summer Jim asked if I was interested in helping him recover a plesiosaur on the banks of the Missouri River near Pickstown, SD. It was an unbelievable experience. Did you go to SDSMT?

Mike, my tags in this Librarything collection don't easily allow the filtering of just northern ABA books (I'll have to work on that). However, my personal site contains most of my bird books (minus successive editions or duplicates), which are arranged by geography.

Specifically, you can see bird books on just Canada at...
http://sites.google.com/site/avianreview...

Or, books on northwest USA including Alaska at...

Hello Birders!

Did you ever wonder where all those birds migrating through North America disappear to and breed? Far North bird publications do exist, many of which are printed by northerners. The following is an incomplete list of mostly obscure publications collected by an itinerant northern birder. Titles run from oldest to most recent:

**Guide to the Birds of Alaska, by Robert H. Armstrong, (1980)
Alaska Northwest Publishing Co., SC, 309 pg, ISBN 0-88240-143-2

Birds of Nahanni National Park, Northwest Territories, by George W. Scotter et al,
(1985) Special Publ No 15, Saskatchewan Natural History Society, Regina SK,
SC booklet, 74 pg, no cataloguing #s.

**Guide to Alaskan Seabirds, by Nancy E. Stromsen, (1989, 2nd ed)
Alaska Natural History Society, SC booklet, 44 pg, ISBN 0-9602876-4-7.

Birds of Swan Lake, Yukon, by Helmut Grunberg, (1994)
Keyline Graphic Design, Whitehorse YT, SC, 137 pg, ISBN 0-9698268-0-X.
(very detailed account of a birding locale outside Whitehorse YT)

Colonial Waterbirds of Great Slave Lake, Northwest Territories: An Annotated Atlas,
by J. Sirois et al, (1995)
Occasional Paper No 89, Canadian Wildlife Service, Enviroment Canada, SC, 59 pg,
ISBN 0-662-23884-2.

All the Birds of North America, by Jack L. Griggs, (1997)
American Bird Conservancy's Field Guide, SC, ISBN 0-06-273028-2.
A dog-eared, water-resistent field guide with an Arctic Bird (!) section,
must replace as it is still me' fav' guide...

Birds of Nunavut, a Checklist, by James M. Richards et al, (2002)
Birders Journal Publ. Inc. SC booklet, 21 pg, no cataloguing #s.

Field Guide to the Birds of the Mackenzie Delta, ed. by Mike Solomons (2002)
Aurora Research Institute, SC, 102 pg, ISBN 0-7708-0035-1.

Yours in birding from North of 60!

Subarcticmike,

I am back doing some more cataloging. I am glad to see that you are enjoying Library Thing, it is a really useful site for book people. I am off for a little hike today, but I will go through your library, and I am sure I will learn from it. I am glad to see that you have a few book stores you can go to way up North, I guess the Internet is also a good thing for you.
Hi Mike: When I was a child of five (I'm now 65), growing up in the woods in northern Ontario, my uncle came home for a visit from the Northwest Territories where he had spent many years, at times working in some capacity for The Hudson's Bay Company. I have photos taken by him of Eskimos in traditional garb, their skin boats, furs, etc. He gifted us and other family members with beaded moccasins, soapstone carvings, and other items that, sadly, I was too young to appreciate. He introduced me (rather unsuccessfully, as it turned out) to chunks of raw, frozen meat (beef, in this case), which he casually snacked on, and he made a harness for my dog which was then expected to pull me along on my toboggan. The highlight of his stay with us was his gift to me of a real igloo, complete with a raised sleeping platform covered with pine boughs. I've often wished that my parents had photographed it.
Subarcticmike, thank you for your comments regarding my Birds of Yukon review. I try to write the reviews in a manner that describes what's inside the book for anyone who's not seen it and who may be contemplating on purchasing the book unseen. This stems from my own desires to have some kind of clue in advance when I buy a less common title.

It is this interest in sharing what's in the books -- and what unique titles even exist -- that spurred me into creating my own website outside of Librarything. My goal is to show the covers of all my bird books, arrange them by region/topic, offer a brief summation and, ultimately, a longer review. If interested, you can view what I've done so far at the website listed in my Librarything profile.

I look forward to chatting with you on future bird books.
