About meMy whole life revolves around my boys: On the left Cocoa Puff, who is 6, and on the right Blake Dylan, who is almost 2. We are convinced both dogs are half cat/half monkey/half sharks. They are both very evil.
By some cruel joke I'm almost 30 and unemployed.
I'm a part-time nerd//all consuming headbanging audiophile//trip over my own feet dork//follow my own rules fashionista//crazed Potterhead//oblivious gamer//bible stomping atheist//raging spendrift... a quasi writer, avid reader, epicurean, vegetarian, couchside animal rights (non)activist, I'm a sometimes artist, dog lover, over the moon, starry-eyed romantic, but just mostly psychotic misanthrope.... nothing brings me more joy than helping others, partying with good friends, chardonnay, girly but potent cocktails, or cloistering myself in my room for days, reading a phenomenal novel while listening to something fab from my growing vinyl collection...... I got a bad case of potty mouth, and I suffer from constant foot in mouth.
I am NOT nice, but go on, show me some love!
Can you dig it?

You know, Sierra has been watching the Beatles movies lately. Help! and Yellow Submarine. So much so, I'm starting to think in Beatle. It might be a problem. I'm getting more random than usual.
We need to figure out how to get together before you leave. I'm hoping to take Marina to Mamaroneck tomorrow. The authors of Faust Again are going to read excerpts from their book at the Voracious Reader. Want a copy?

Seriously, I was really sad that you weren't in town. I'll have to come up again some other time when you are in town. Maybe if we do regional get-togethers for the seventh HP movie, I will go to the New York one this time.
I think most of the people who post a lot on HE right now are ones you know, so don't let that stop you from posting when you get a chance. We miss you! :-)

If you do decide to come, you can crash with me of course. We'll probably go over to my parents' that morning to grab some lunch and then last year our dad drove us over and picked us up after (to avoid drinking and driving of course). We would then probably spend a good portion of the evening over there while I sobered up enough to drive back to my place.
It will sell out eventually, so if you decide to come, get your tix ASAP!
Later gator!

Nope, not a bad thing at all. Bana will be fantastic! Why isn't it playing yet?!
I can't believe someone stole your book! How mad, and maddening! I don't know a thing about the book but almost laughed when I read the title. Only weird, huh?
What is going on with Borders Bucks? Have Borders been giving it to you like crazy? I've gotten it four times now this summer and swear I've hardly bought much. I thought it was just in July that you only have to spend $50 to get it.

My fingers are so crossed things come out well for it. It's always harder when they mess up books you really love in the movies. Not so incredibly for the Harry Potter ones, but I can somehow put that aside. Maybe because there are so many of those movies?
You know, I was talking about this movie to LG's LTer friend I met last weekend. She brought up the point that Bana is too - hmm - muscular? - for the part of Henry. I knew he was that way in the movie 'Troy' but couldn't really complain - Bana looks nice, right? I was happy he got the part. Anyhow, I don't think it will be on anyone's minds. Plus, he's not scrawny as Henry might be, but he seemed okay in the trailer, build-wise.

I think you would really like Heart-Shaped Box. It's pretty dark, quasi-bloody, the ghost in it was really creepy (to me at least), and I also found it to be a really interesting story. I didn't know until after I finished it that Joe Hill is Stephen King's son - there are some similarities to their writing, but Hill manages a pretty unique voice - and I notice King is on your favorites list so that's another reason you should check it out. I borrowed the copy I read from my mom otherwise I'd offer to send it your way.
Hope you have a fantabulous time with the HogX meet-up! I'm sure it will be an absolute blast!!

That's probably a smart decision, lol. The collections has been migrating my books for me, so I'm having quite a hassle so if you ever do use it... join a little later! I like it, it's sooo much easier to track the books I want and have read, which I've really wanted to do. And yea, I agree, it makes me want to buy all the books but I'm broke so that solves that issue! :D

41 isn't bad. The year isn't half way quite yet. You're six books ahead of me. I've only read 35. I think I read eleven books last month, but for a while my reading had been slow. Charlaine Harris's books are the reason for the rise in books last month. My 20 y/o sister pushed me to read book one and she's a little upset now that I'm one book ahead of her. Still haven't seen the tv show. Has season two started yet?

A five hour flight isn't too bad. I do hope you can sleep on the plane with all those HEGs. It sounds like you will need it what with landing 6am London time. Well, don't forget your make up so you will look nice for all those HEGs for first impressions. First impressions are very important. Just ask Elizabeth or Mr. Darcy. Okay, I wasn't being stupid. That was a play on P&P's original title. So lame, I know.
Stop thinking of disasters. All will be well and excellent. I wish you the best of luck and the most exciting time! Give LadyN a real hug for me.

Don't be ashamed about the tourist book thing. Every Londoner owns an A-Z, and at least one guide book I reckon.
SO. EXCITED!!!
On Tuesday evening I have to have a meeting thing with my comedy group, which you are welcome to come along to of course, but which I understand is not the most appealing notion. It won't go on late though, so obviously we'll be going to the pub before the night is out.
Apart from that I have every day from Friday through Wednesday to be at your disposal. I have to work 10-6 next Thurs and Fri, but you'll be glad of the break from me by then. Ha!

Glad you're amused by the tootsie roll thing :-) I was asking my friend Matt what he thought I should get you to bring, and brought up tootsie rolls, and he had no idea what I was talking about, so that's what clinched it! Ha ha ha!
Yeah, sorry about that whole exchange rate thing... Still, it's more in your favour at the moment than it was. Not so long ago you'd have only come out of that with £225, so there is a bright side!
We will spend it wisely. Don't forget that "Primarni" is marvellous value. Ooh I can't wait! I hope you have a list of places you want to go and things you want to see, otherwise you'll have to put up with being dragged around to all sorts of things you have absolutely no interest in. Lol, that would be great to bowl with you! Yea, All the bowling alleys we have contain bars, so I know what you mean! But bowling alleys are expensive so I don't know if i would buy alcohol from my alley lol. I actually bowled today and last weekend... saturday and sunday was our states tournament for leagues... in grand rapids. I did pretty well, so I'm happy about that.
Lol, well maybe you should organize or something?!!! I try to organize things a little, at least to ensure that its been added to my library and dated for when I got it etc... I'd help ya with the books if I could, but unfortunately, New York is kinda far away. If I ever visit a campus in Pennsylvania or NY I'll look you up lol!
I never really did tags but I started to just cu I thought maybe it would help... other people... but whatever. I just put it in when I put the book in or after I read it. It's amazingly easy. However, I did have about 200 books that I had to do book by book because I had hardly put any tags on anything. Yea, I don't review much... only when I feel the book deserves it or it REALLY sucked. I actually won a book from the member giveaway, so I'm going to have to get into reviewing!
Lol, you deserve nice things, silly girl. I don't find it necessary to put down my friends usually. :) Enjoy work!
BTW, the dog is dead, unfortunately. Her name is Daisy and she was the best and very sweet... I miss her a LOT!

I haven't been doing too much... I joined the bowling team for the year so that kept me pretty busy and all my homework I did when I wasn;t at my boyfriends house, which is a lot. In fact, I just got back about 30 minutes ago, lol. But I'm trying to get on more now, especially since I've been putting ALL of my books in... the ones that I havent looked at in years because they sit in totes in my basement so they can be preserved, lol. And I've added over 150 and I have two more totes left to go trhough. It's always so exciting to add all my books. The most infuriating part is the tags... they take me eons to do. My next project after all my books are in and the tags are done is to work on reviews... but I kinda don't like writing them because I think I sound dumb and I really don't want to summarize the novel... it already is! lol
Yes, I read Wicked Lovely, and I love the trilogy. Sequels are always kinda iffy, but I ride them out and go for the story. I can't wait to read it... I'm working on maybe 5 series and tons of individual novels. I just started City of Bones so I can read City of Glass, I heard it's a good even though the author's accredation is questionable. I still need to a read a Sweet Far Thing, Inkdeath, So You Want to Be a Wizard #8, and Brisingr!
Did you read Inkspell? that one was interesting. Inkdeath was a breeze for me. I struggle with Twilight if I'm not in a good reading mood cuz I don't think it's a good series, but it's so simple that it's easy to go through.
I found someone that shared a bunch of ooks with me, Rubbah, she seems cool and she has a ton of books, especially manga! I think she's going on 1,000 books, and she's cool. I thought she had children though cuz she was saying she was putting in her "chidren's books" and I didn't realize she was 18 untiljust 5 minutes ago. Wow, I'm dumb!
Sorry I typed so much, lol I miss talking to you and we have to catch up! Gosh, I miss you so much... I read your about me and gosh you're just so amazing and sweet. I wish I could party with you. It always seems that I find the best friends in places where I can't reach them. How's the Potter gang?

Well, I got an e-mail from Borders about the Twilight dvd today. Part of me was hoping they were sincerely kidding when they said it would be April before I get my copy (you know, since I paid for it already) but they were serious. *shakes her first at Borders*
Anyhow...you said it was only a week away last night! And then I find out...it's Friday at midnight. That's not like you to have a release date like that wrong!
Oh, I so want to reread The Time Traveler's Wife now! I'm pretty sure I put Henry on my literary crush list. They're making the book into a movie, did I tell you? I'll wait till you finish reading before saying anything about it. I need not say happy reading.

One major difference between the bookstores near where each of us live is that there is an incredible amount more of things where you are, not simply for being larger bookstores, but that they really use their storage space. You know the shelves up high above their regular shelving? Those were full in the bookstores you took me to. Out here, they're empty! Genius CA bookstores, huh?
Well, I am happy you can have your non-bootleg on time. I bet you will be their first customer of the day, and with good reason! They need to award you an employee discount. :)
posted by Kerian at 2:24 pm (EST) on Mar 2, 2009
Yes. Disgusting, isn't it? They just slip that in there and don't give warning. All of a sudden you make your way to preorder thinking, Haha, I beat them this time! And then you find that oh, no, they beat you!
Yes, Bootleg curse. That really makes me think of the Pirates movies for some reason. Bootleg Bill. That's probably why. Well, you could always get the movie somewhere else...but no one will have Borders' edition. :( So that's why I decided to go ahead and preorder late to get the movie in April. I did hear that Hot Topic has something they're giving out free with Twilight dvds. No idea what, though. I can find out on Sunday if I remember to ask my co-worker.
Guess what, guess what? I just got back from shopping. I bought the coolest cardigan. It's longer in the front and wraps around you and then buttons in the back. It's grey. (I know, no color.) I did get a mauve top and purple skinny jeans, though. And another top and a regular pair of skinny jeans, light blue. (Love dark denim, but it screams fall and winter to me.) Ha. Tease my wardrobe now. And sorry if this is very dull. I'm home alone and there is no one to tell about my exciting shopping trip. :(
Hope you have a great weekend full of zzzs all Saturday morning, and erm, afternoon.

KIK. I don't need to ask about the sigh. I know which book that was for. ;) Is this your first time reading Huck Finn or is it a reread? I still very much want to reread Inkheart. That stupid movie! Or not stupid, but I'm a little mad about it. The theaters aren't playing it here anymore and I missed the chance to see it. There wasn't a date set for the dvd as of last week. How do you like the book so far?
I'm reading a book called Ophelia that's not Shakespeare's play Ophelia but is based on Hamlet. It's one of those twisted tales. I love them! Btw, I'm glad you enjoyed The Book of Lost Things. I just read it last month. The other book I'm reading right now but am bad at getting into is The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. It's my read-at-home book and I kind of spent the last couple of days watching movies instead.
I had a Jane Austen movie marathon as best as one could with a mere three movies based on her books. I just bought "Persuasion" on dvd! Otherwise I have S&S and two P&P movies. (No Colin Firth version yet.)
Is that the same friend who lost their job? I'm sorry about that! It really sucks. Berta lost hers, too. Hope you guys have a good time and that she's able to find work soon.

I'll have to just stick to the food court and my beloved smoothies. Not that I'm complaining. Smoothies are my weakness. The escalators will be my friends instead. You know what, though? Those things love to shock me. It happened four times last week in one day. Ridiculous!
Have you read Fragile Eternity? I've wondered if it would be strongly part of book one or two or if it's just as distant as the first two were to each other.

I don't know about stopping a train door - I wouldn't want to do that. But the elevator doors are supposed to bounce back open when you do that.
Do you want to borrow the ARC I've been trying to tell you about?

Silly suge! Scan down your profile. I wrote you a private message on Feb 18. I do have an ARC of Hunted. If I hadn't have been busy working and hiding from relatives I would have called to tell you when I could tell you missed the message. ;) Point, though: I have a copy from someone we both know and love, it's signed by the author to me, and I asked you! If you wanted to borrow it so you can read it. Yay or nay?
I'm so upset. Some elevator doors had my foot and arm clenched in them yesterday. I was beating up those doors and cursing so much and did those doors want to free me? I'll tell you it was the elevator from hell. You know all those movies where people get stuck in them and the elevator begins lifting up or down to another floor? Didn't happen. But was so my fear yesterday once I realized it wasn't going to let me go. I couldn't believe it. I don't know who to go to about it. If it had been a small kid between the doors instead of me just think what could have happened. I'm only bruised and have bumps on my arm but the mall could have been in big trouble were it a kid.
How was your weekend?

I haven't read the book. The book character Rebecca is supposed to be English?? That is a good question! New York! I would never have guessed it wasn't supposed to take place there. As someone who has only seen the movie and not read the book, it seemed like the perfect location to me. It has thee big city, where everything happens. It would be interesting to see it take place in England after seeing the movie. I want to hunt for the book now.
First book...Are you telling me it's a series? How many of the books have you read? I'm sorry this movie is ruining what was otherwise a good book for you. I bet you had really loved it, too, am I right?
I've never read any sort of shopaholic book, but after seeing the movie, I could hear voices of other people in the theater: "I'm a shopaholic about this" or "I'm a shopaholic about that." It made me think about what I spend too much money on, which is mainly stuff from work and books.

I live in south east London, between Blackheath (lovely) and Lewisham (not so lovely). It's a 20 min train journey to Charing Cross, which is basically Covent Garden and the West End on your doorstep. Everything easily commutable.

I just ran out my door this morning because I saw a dog wandering alone. Luckily it turned out to belong next door, sort of. My neighbors were dog-sitting and it's owner had just showed up to take it home. My neighbors have a dog of their own and always open their door without putting a leash on first. I hope they never have to learn why that's bad.

Ah! I'm going to guess it must be a chilling book. Have you seen the movie yet, or maybe planning to after you finish the book? I haven't read that many scary books but Bag of Bones might be the scariest. I'm not sure if it's a movie.
It can be so irritating not being able to find covers. I try to find them for books in my library that are coverless but some cases are just hopeless.
How many books have you read so far this year? I'm sure you're past three.

And YES -- there is more!! It's on stepheniemeyer.com, click on "Twilight Series" and then "Midnight Sun." There's a link there for just the first chapter or the whole part that she had done before the other idiot ruined everything. But I warn you: I sat down to read just a little of it, and spent the next 3 hours reading the whole thing. I couldn't stop. And I kept getting more and more jittery, realizing I was almost at the end of the writing but nowhere near the end of the story.
I'm normally so rational (which is why I've been embarrassed to admit my growing obsession), but your message has helped me decide that enjoying Twilight doesn't have to be rational. In fact, it probably shouldn't be.
I hope you get time for Midnight Sun soon! It's really wonderful. I like it better than Bella's version.

I had been resisting, but -- like Edward -- I wasn't strong enough to stay away, and read what is available of Midnight Sun. It stops just one chapter short of my favorite chapter in Twilight (when Edward & Bella are in the meadow). It's exhilarating to read but maddening to reach the end! Why did it have to get ruined for all of us!? :(
Mostly I just wanted to scream I LOVE TWILIGHT!!! to someone who won't smirk or laugh. You were my number one candidate. See, I've been telling myself and everyone else that I only kind of liked it before. Now I've given up. I pretty much saturated myself in Twilight this weekend, having seen the movie at last, reread Twilight, and now read Midnight Sun. All in the same weekend. And it was glorious. But at the same time, I'm still a bit ashamed of how much I like it, yet unable to pull myself away or like it less.
Thanks for listening as I indulged the 14-year-old within me. I just had to tell someone who would have a complete understanding of the power of The Book. :)

I don't know why you colonials started going around saying "September 15". I mean, come on - it would even make more sense to say "2008 September 15". Did you do it to confuse the redcoats?).

Darn you, ahead on the Heir series! I wanted to talk to you about The Wizard Heir. I was dying to talk to someone about the book the whole time I was reading it. Those are such amazingly good books! As soon as Linda picked Seph up from school, I briefly wondered...and then later by the time he was staying at Jack's, I was convinced Linda was Seph's mother. That was so cool for parentless Seph. (What an odd name he goes by, huh?) Did you guess the same? Can't wait to read book three!
I'm really enjoying the House of Night series. I thought Stevie Rae would 'die' during the series but I never imagined she would become a vamp the way she did after Zoey and co fixed her in book three. And Aphrodite turning human! I did not see that coming. Loren's an asshole, Zoey was right. Poor Z, huh? I guess that would tick off her friends about Stevie Rae not being dead. So do you think her step loser is the killer, or just the people of faith in general? So sad about Erik. I think Zoey should be with him.
Must run to get ready for work. Hope everything is good with you.
