About meReader, librarian, gardener, parent, wife, volunteer, cook, not in order of importance. I like crosswords and sudoku. I have two cats.

My LT user name, tardis, is not just a reference to the fact that I love Doctor Who, but because I believe a book is much bigger on the inside than the outside. There are whole worlds in books - you just have to open one and dive in...

P.S. I only "friend" people I actually know or have some significant connection with.

About my libraryMy LibraryThing catalogue includes only things my family owns and more than just books - I also added videos and music cds.

Oh, you're welcome! That's wonderful. I'm glad you liked Akata Witch, too.
Thanks!
No worries. There is no rush. :)
Ohh, lovely. Thank you for pointing that out. Whenever I think I have updated our address everywhere it needs to be updated, I find another one :) Thanks!
Look at all of the great stuff we share! I know we're already kindred spirits. I'm going to be poking in your gardening shelves today.
Hello tardis,

Thank you, thank you for For All the Tea in China! I had seen it before at the Harvard Bookstore and didn't pick it up because it was too expensive, but thought it looked good and wanted to read it,... and it is! I love 1) tea 2) Asia 3) commodities histories (random, I know) 4) the British Empire and frankly, 5) adventure stories, and this really hits all of those things. I'm also going to look up Fortune's books in their own right, because they sound like fun reading.

And it's pretty nifty that you're related to him!

Thanks again,
Dianna
Thanks for the SantaThing book selections! I've heard nothing but good things about them. I think I'll also be adding Founding Brothers to my wishlist as it does sound like something I'd like.

I have no idea how many books because I can't (sadly) take credit for the picture. I snagged it off the web. I do love it though.

Both brilliant and beautiful, love it! How many books did it take?
I'm making progress. I found the "invert" in Photoshop. If I do it without the paper behind it, it scans the place in the lid of the scanner where you are supposed to insert the slide or the negative. You know, I'm supposed to be doing housework!
Thank you! I'm working on it. I think there is some issue with my HP flatbed scanner, it has the capacity for negatives/slides, but won't give me the option. My negatives also won't fit into the holder, so I'm scanning them with a white piece of paper behind them. I thought photoshop would have an "invert" option, but so far I haven't found it, so I'm going into Paint, inverting the image, then going into photoshop to fix it up. I'm trying the increased pixel resolution scan, but it's making a weird noise and taking a long time, so don't know if I'll do that again. It is supposed to help with enlarging the image.
A comment you made in the GD has me curious. You are scanning negatives? Do they come out looking like pictures? How do you do that? I just received a whole suitcase of old negatives from my MIL which I would love to look at in a better way than just holding them up to the light.
Hi Jane, thanks for joining the Gardens & Books-group. I read your introduction and despite the fact that we live on different continents and in different climate-zones, it looks like we have a lot in common too: the size of our garden, for starters :-), but also the fact that we love garden-books and garden-visits. I'm curious about which plants grow easily over there. I think Edmonton is a very cold place to grow things, but I've never visited Canada, so I really don't have a clue. I hope to meet you often on the group-pages.
Greets,

Monica (JustJoey)
Thanks for the SantaThing books - they finally arrived! I had never heard of [Bridge of Birds] or [Stories of Your Life and Others] but both look really interesting and well-chosen. And of course, I imagine Android Karenina will be the same silly fun as its kin. I look forward to reading all three, and thank you again.
Thank you for being my Santa this year! My books arrived today. I love British mysteries from the early to mid-20th century, and The Wooden Overcoat looks delightful. Great choice! I have a friend who is reading books for each country in Asia, and I had added Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress to my wish list after she recommended it as one she thought I'd like. I'll look forward to reading them both.
Hi Tardis,

Thanks for the recommendation you made on my Santathing page for Bridge of Birds. My Santa ended up picking it for me and it looks great! I am very much looking forward to reading it. I also am a big DW fan so just had to stop by - love you user name :)

Have a great day,
rubarbaru
Checked out your LT account to get a taste. And then I just had to start one of my own. Sigh. Why didn't I do this earlier.
And then I "wasted" an evening on inventory. But it was soooo worth it.

Yup. One of the days last year when we were down on the flat bit.

Cool site marker! Was that taken at the Folk Festival?
Hi tardis!

Thanks for your suggestion on the veg thread. You are clearly a much more serious gardener than I am! I see you have a few British works too - how do you like Bob Flowerdew?

We seem to have quite a lot in common, so I shall be peering into your library for suggestions (as if I don't have enough on my wishlist already).
Your review of Shades of Grey was great! I gave you a thumbs up.
If and when I ever use it, you get full credit. I wish I had said it.
"I believe a book is much bigger on the inside than the outside"

That's excellent, I really like it. If you don't mind, I'm going to use that in converstion.
Ah, got ahead of myself, I thought the festival was this past weekend. Hope you have a wonderful time and glad to hear you're okay. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate :-)
Hi Jane, I'm just dropping in to make sure you're okay. It was the Edmonton music festival you were going to right? Not the one in Camrose? Those poor people!! So terrifying for everybody. You were the first person I thought of when I heard the news. Hope you had a wonderful time listening to Oyster Band and everybody else and that the weather cooperated where you were, no rogue winds!

Take care,
Katherine
Hi! I just had to greet someone who had such a great online handle. Plus, you like Terry Pratchett. What a swell lady! :D Have an awesome day.
Hi there. I've just bought The dark triangle by Hugh Walters and I see you have some of the series too. Just thought I'd say hi.
Yes, it is me - I haven't been on for a while. Just getting back into it.
Small world!

I just joined LibraryThing and added my first book. My next step was to follow the link to others with the same book and, of course, being a lover of Doctor Who I had to choose you first.

What are the chances I would find someone from my own home town? And with such great taste in books??

Nice way to start :) Thank you!
I saw that - I guess the books we have in common fit the "algorithm" the same way, or something, although you've done better snagging books than me. I really hope this book is better than her last book in the other series. I've enjoyed the other Grace and Favor books, but haven't read them all.
