About me Reader, librarian, gardener, parent, wife, volunteer, cook, tai chi student, not in order of importance. I like crosswords and sudoku. I have 2 cats.

My LT user name, tardis, is not just a reference to the fact that I love Doctor Who, but because I believe a book is much bigger on the inside than the outside. There are whole worlds in books - you just have to open one and dive in...

About my library My LibraryThing catalogue includes only things my family owns and more than just books - I also added videos and music cds.

The tags "car stuff" and "workshop stuff" are place markers until my husband decides on something more useful and/or specific. This is not one of his higher priorities :)

Hi Tardis! Sorry for the delay in replying, it’s been pretty hectic lately and when I finally managed to block off some time on Sunday to catalogue books and check messages, LT went down.

Wow, it sounds like you spent most of your weekend at the sale. Between that and working both drop-off days, you must qualify as a *gold star* volunteer. :-)

I didn’t have a chance to look around as much as I would have liked, but I’m just glad I managed to get to the sale. I found 12 Viragos (yay!!), 2 of which were duplicates of books I have, but I’ve given them away to other collectors in the Virago group here at LT. (We share duplicates with each other.) I also bought some slightly obscure classics and some other odds and ends.

My husband came with me this year and he was stunned at the number of books and people. He came away with about six books (sports and biography), but I have a feeling that he might not come again next year.

I have nightmares about the idea of recycling (although I know that from a practical perspective it has to be done – especially books with out-dated information), but I keep wondering if some obscure, out-of-print item on my “wishlist” is being pulped as we speak (or should I say type?)

As far as suggestions, have they considered having the sale twice a year -- maybe Spring and Fall? Of course, that would be dependent on whether they could get facilities and if they think they could get enough volunteers. Even if the donation days were only once a year, they seem to collect enough books for two sale weekends (feel free to correct me if my perception is wrong, I won’t be offended). I know I would have liked to buy more books, but the old budget kicked in (not to mention that I couldn’t carry any more books the three blocks to my car). Our local Friends of the Library group holds a book sale in the late winter and any leftovers are put out again at the summer Garage Sale and Barbeque.

Oops! I seem to running off at the mouth (or should I say keyboard?). I'd better sign off.

Hi Jane,

Great to see that you added the "Raise a Reader" booksale. I went last year on my way home from work on the Friday. I remember hauling several bags of books to my car (and I didn't even have chance to look at more than a couple of sections!) I'll have to make sure that I take my donations in this year. I missed the drop off dates last year.

Maybe I'll see you at the sale :)
Hi Tardis

Have not read the Dave Duncan books yet, but hope to soon, pleased to add you to interesting libraries.

Hey Jane - I finished the N's & P's, I'm not only at the top of your list, but I'm over 2000 as well! I also think I'm running out of shelf space again, as I collect the books scattered around the house and get them back where they belong. The end is in sight! Although once I get the paperbacks done I still have a lot of juvenile books to do, then have to decide if I'll do the cd's, videos and DVD's.
Hi tardis (great screen name!)

Thanks for updating Volume II re: the closing. It's too bad that we're losing an indie. I'm glad to see that Carrefour is still in business. I've haven't been there in ages. I don't think I'm familiar with Alhambra; what's it like?

If I get a chance, I'm going to try to add more Alberta libraries this weekend.

I deleted that dupilicate venue yesterday; if I had waited until this morning I could have combined it. Oh well, no one had "favorited" it and it had no events, so it shouldn't really matter.

I'm glad to see that you're using Local too. I was hoping that I wasn't going to be all alone in this part of the world.
I had to laugh at your comment on "Combiners" about massively bad data. I'll comment here to keep from sidetracking that discussion. Enid Blyton was a prolific author, but she didn't write everything! It seems to be a recent problem, just in the past week or two, that she's showing up as author or co-author of books by (if memory serves) Saint Augustine, G. K. Chesterton, etc. I haven't been choosing those copies off the Amazon list, but if someon clicks on the first title they see, that may be what they get. The horror, the horror.
