About meGrowing up in a small town, I had to look to books for my adventures. Authors like Gene Stratton Porter and L.M. Montgomery showed me how country girls could lead interesting, unique lives-far from ordinary or limted. Later reading fiction by Tim O'Brien and Salinger motivated me to learn and expand my thinking and beliefs. Janet Fitch inspired empathy, Michael Dorris integrity and Dave Eggers amusement.
I have been surprised and horrified by Ishiguro, informed by Leonard Shlain and bemused by Nick Hornby.
Books are my friends, my teachers.
