The theological loopholes are most disturbing, but this, I suspect, was partially the aim on Young's behalf. He wants to make God pedestrian, approachable, non-offensive and non judgmental. He does a great job at it, but is it blasphemy as some say? I think not. It is fiction. Period. Fiction with the power to heal hurting people who have suffered and wondered where was God when it all happened. For another great read (non-fiction) check out A Step Into Deliverance by Toni Pugh. It is a riveting autobiography of a pastor's struggle in holding together a small church in Ohio. A real page-turner!
