About meRecently retired and loving the freedom to explore my computer and indulge in my hobbies.

About my libraryHave only done a few so far - twenty more shelves to go. I love good science fiction and historical fiction, especially about ancient Greece and medieval England. Try to keep up with modern fiction too and now have far more time to read - hooray!

I don't know, I've always been a fast reader. I do surprise myself occasionally though when I read books in English just as fast as in my native language (German).
I hope you like "War of the Flowers"! Thank God mine doesn't weigh 1kg (I have the paperback) as I get most of my reading done commuting by train.
I enjoyed "War of the Flowers" a lot! I actually read it in 2 days which is pretty fast considering how thick it is. It's always the same with Tad Williams books, they tend to sit on my shelves for a while too, but once I start them, I literally can't stop. I had the 4 Otherland books on my shelves for more than 6 years until I finally started them and then I read them (roughly 3700 pages) in two weeks. "War of the Flowers" is a nice change because in Tad's world it's a short book...
There are lots of interesting, fun and quirky characters in it and, as in all of Williams' books, a reluctant hero. The exciting thing about it is how Faerie and our world are existing side by side in this book. And how similar they are. So ultimately the book is not only fantasy but also a really cool interpretation of our world and way of life. I think.
I like the Otherland series even better than "War of the Flowers", but since I think that Tad Williams is one of the best fantasy writers I've ever read, you can't go wrong with any of his books.
