About meI am, among other things, a dance artist who lives, works, and performs in Portland, OR. I am also an intellectual fellow with intentions on pursuing a Ph.D in African Studies or English (to study African lit); it depends on where I get in!
About my libraryAlthough I read widely, lately I have found myself drawn to African literature, architecture, and cultural studies. I feel passionately about transnational literacy, and I'm forcing myself to abandon the lure of postcolonial studies in order to think about the intersections between literature, politics, history, geography, and society within the comparative context of globalism. It's a tall order, but I think this is the direction in which I am (and my library is) headed. In terms of managing my library, I make frequent culls in the interest of cultivating a catalog more densely packed with volumes I find moving or important in other ways. This is especially evident in my sci fi/fantasy collection; in the interest of preserving nostalgia I've only kept my very favorite volumes from certain series and abandoned those that failed to capture my heart. [Cataloging still in progress].
