It certainly does sound like you had an eventful evening. I have my own house now, but spent a few years renting and was lucky enough to have nice landlords, thank goodness.
I laughed when I read you also did volunteer book sorting, I don't know about parallel universe, lol, but it's interesting that we have another thing in commmon. The book situation in Australia is very similar to yours, in fact we had a bill defeated recently that would have removed some of the outrageous benefits the multi-national companies enjoy regarding the prices they charge. As things stand I would always prefer to buy a good second-hand novel, than a new one.
You had an extremely interesting childhood it seems, it made me quite envious reading of all the places you have visited, and the unusual things you must have seen, such as the foot-binding you mentioned, and falling into a monsoon drain! I am happy you survived that experience :) I think you were also very lucky to have a mum who took you to the cinema to watch all those movies, including the horror ones. Good on her.
I am glad you have read The Diary of Mr Poynter, your memory of it is spot on. Yes, I have read Canon Alberic's Scrapbook, and trying to envision the creature in the picture is something my mind keeps trying to do, something I am glad of course it cannot, hehe.
It was extremely kind of you to offer to copy those old BBC episodes for me onto Disc. I was thinking of offering you the paperback copy I have of Bury Him Darkly but I dont really think the delicate little thing would survive the journey, its only good for one more read at most, though only through age, not through abuse or anything, esp not from me!
Drag me to Hell sounds better and better, I will watch it first chance I get, as well as Evil Dead 2, I have been reading Evil Dead 2 is a wonderful horror ride, funny and scary at the same time, just the combination I enjoy.
I have only read Shambleau by C. L. Moore, and totally enjoyed it. Definitely not for the easily rattled reader, lol. I have the collection of her stories, titled Shambleau, and I have no idea why I haven't gone back to finish it yet, the too many books syndrome, perhaps?
I would love to go on a bit more about books and movies, but am writing this in our local library and am running out of time. Thanks once again for your messages, Lesley, I totally enjoy reading them all. I hope your landlord's personality improves drastically, and no, I won't ask about exploding pie charts!?! You sure sound like a lady who keeps herself busy.
Take care, and I look forward to hearing from you again. Kind regards,
Peter.
