About meSouthern New Zealand by inclination, temperament, and education; Christchurch resident of long standing; originally studied physics and mathematics but have worked as a fisheries biologist for the last 30 years; on retirement (sometime in the next 5-8 years) Liz & I hope to divide our time between Wanaka and Haast, where I plan to build an astronomical observatory and Liz will busy herself in her studio. Other interests include the New Zealand outdoors, keeping fit, yoga, and natural history. Fergal the feline also lives with us but shows no interest in books.

About my libraryA work in progress, which will eventually contain our combined holdings of ~2500 books. The collection is reasonably dichotomous: my interests centre around science and natural history, philosophy, tramping, and other outdoor recreation, with relatively little fiction (John Le Carre excepted). Liz's collection covers art, art history, classics, history, crafts, sewing, education, and most of the fiction. Areas of overlap include travel, New Zealand history and exploration, quilting, and natural history.
