Since you're asking - no, I was surprised by the conclusion of Ender's Game too. Although, had I heard in advance that it had that sort of ending, I would have been anticipating something and might have clued in. In retrospect it shouldn't have been that much of a surprise, given the way he was being treated by instructors at the academy. I've heard they're making a movie, wonder whether the ending will be seen as a surprise in that format.
