Re: Juliet, Naked- Have I read it? Sort of. Heh. I have a couple of books that have been patiently waiting their turn to be read, but when Juliet arrived, I cheated a bit and read the first chapter. It was great. I'm like Hornby's stuff, and this one seems to be getting back towards his better stuff (High Fidelity, About A Boy, Fever Pitch).

By the way, I laughed out loud while reading Dear American Airlines, something I do not do too often. That might fit your "books that will elicit an embarrassing laugh in public". Also recently read and loved The Story of a Marriage.

I love Taylor Grocery! A number of booksellers were in Oxford for some meetings a few years back and our friends from Square Books took us there. Can't wait to get back! Met a lot of great authors from that area as well.

I am from Milwaukee and have been a bookseller for 19 years. The many who in 1927 started our company, Harry Schwartz, published the story Salmagundi by Faulkner early on. He and his partner wrote Faulkner a note on a wine stained napkin asking if they could publish him. Thought you might enjoy the story.

I can't resist a recommendation ! I will give Portis a try. It took me a long time to add all of my books. I would kind of add in spurts. I also have books in two different residents which made it interesting :>0

Hi vincentvan, welcome to LT, and good to hear from you. I'm afraid I wasn't making any kind of statement with my omitted non-fiction titles, but instead, everything got erased in a glitch last week, and only now have had the time to restore them. Take a look and see what you think, and if you feel like it, please drop by the Deep South group, as we're gearing up to read either Tony Earley's Jim the Boy, or Larry Brown's Father and Son. Hello and thanks for the comment. I grew up on the east coast in Massachusetts. I even lived in Auburn, Maine briefly in the late 90's. That was when I tried briefly moving back to the northeast. I immediatley missed the Pacific Northwest and I've been back here for nearly 7 years now.

We do have some quality books in common. Winter: Notes from Montana by Rick Bass and Plainsong by Kent Haruf are two of my all-time favorites.
