About me37-year-old south african living in cape town, working in publishing, and an avid hunter of interesting books at cheap prices, i.e. often from thrift/charity shops, but lately also increasingly buying books online. prefer second-hand books to new books because virgin books tend to lack bouquet. older books simply smell better: mouldy and dusty!

About my librarymy books cover a range of interconnected interests, both fiction and non-fiction, mostly focussing on africa, south africa and its history, afrikaans literature (including translations of literature from other languages into afrikaans), jazz and related music, mid-century design (from high-end elitism to suburban kitsch), orientalism, religions, literary theory, feminism, queer studies, plus many obscurities and oddities from second-hand shops, e.g. pre-apartheid afrikaans literature (from the 1930s, 1940s)
