Hi, Valda,

I can't find the Patrick Melrose book here at home. I checked to see if it was in the student lounge, but didn't see it there. Maybe some kid is actually reading it!

Anyhow, if it turns up, I'll let you know. Meantime, if you can get them from your library, the books, in this order are:

Never Mind
Bad News
Some Hope
Mother's Milk
At Last

I thought they were very well done, each about the same character, stylistically different.

I'm sorry I couldn't come through with the books.

What a great thought! And you could be right. I saw it in the ironic/tongue-in-cheek way, but like your interpretation better. Gus was actually my favorite character in the book, and definitely carried his own sort of luck, so I shall, indeed, happily adopt your view.

I'm kind of hit and miss with Amy Bloom. I love her writing but she's very dark, too. I tend to go for more uplifting stuff, to help me through the "luck" of my own life.

Thanks for reaching out.
