About meI have less time for reading as I get older and have more responsibilities. I have also accumulated more time-consuming hobbies, including knitting, brewing beer, and proofreading for a manga scanlation site. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and try to devote as much time as possible to my Bikram yoga practice. Maybe I should start taking the bus so I can read more.
About my libraryI was an English major in college, so I had no choice but to acquire books. When I was in grad school in Dallas I would go drinking on Lower Greenville in the afternoons and then go to the Half-Price Books Flagship Store in the evenings. Years afterwards I would still find books I couldn't remember buying. After one particularly grueling move I decided it was time to thin out my library and I sold or gave away about 40 boxes of books. I have a wide range of tastes, but I tend to fixate on one author or genre for a while before moving on to another, then another, and so on. My current fixation is yaoi, before that it was the urban fantasy novels of Charles de Lint. Right now there are so many things I want to read that I can't choose, so I'm not finishing anything. I feel like I will never finish entering all my books into LibraryThing. I am putting EVERY book I own in here - even the embarrassing ones, the brain candy, the beach reads, the erotica, everything.

9/1/09 - I have to cut my library by about one-third, maybe more. My house is small; my library is large. I have many, many books that I am holding onto for sentimental reasons, but I know I will never use or read them again. At one time I would have found this painful, but I think I am finally learning the art of letting go.
