GroupsHMS Surprise, Political Conservatives

About meJohn and Charlene Weidner live in San Francisco, California. Besides books, we are immersed in our 3 children, The Church, gardening, furniture and architecture of the Arts and Crafts Movement, conservative politics, camping, cooking

Charlene is a lawyer--a keen litigator (on the good side). John is a former bookseller turned cabinetmaker.

About my libraryLotta books. It's too soon to comment, starting LibraryThing brings up many questions we need to think about...We don't rate books with the coolness and restraint we should probably use--we just slap the stars on with enthusiasm. All Judge Dee mysteries are fives...

I finally got my collection cataloged (but not yet tagged). I have 1000 fewer books than you do! We seem to share about 30 of the same books. Interesting, no?
Dang! Too bad about that Truth Squad name. I assumed you were all part of one big group.
Oh, I don't know if your friend is that artist of my picture. It is a postcard that I bought in Venice, where "cat doges" are popular. If I can find the card, I'll look for the artist's name on the back.
John -- thanks for the tip on Bungalow Kitchens. I'll add that to my amazon list. You are right, magazines seem to be a better source for restoration ideas. I subscribe to 1900 House magazine (or whatever it is called) and they always have an article about a house resdtoration that I save. Oregon Home magazine also has several good articles about restoring/remodeling craftsman houses, since there are a lot of them in Portland.

Your bookcases look great! I found my way to your woodworking web site. Although I think I was more pleased to find that you are a member of the Krugman Truth Squad. :) NRO is my homepage and I always read Luskin's KTS articles. Good work!

Yes, I am in San Francisco. My husband and I are both lawyers, like your wife. What part of town are you in? We live in Cow Hollow.
Thank you for joining the Political Conservative group! And for already posting a message on the board. I am going to add the book you suggested to my reading list, being a "theo-con" myself. I've never heard that term before, but I like it!

On another note, I am also interested in Arts & Crafts (which I think is the tag I used, rather than Arts & Crafts Movement"). I am going to look through your library to find more books on the topic. My husband and I own and plan, someday, to redo (somewhere between restore and remodel) a 1904 Craftsman-ish four-square in Portland. I'd be interested in your recommendations for books on home restoration, since right now my A&C library mostly consists of decor books.
I can't say anything about SpaceDev in particular, but I am very bullish on private space flight in general.

Some thoughts of mine here:

No, of course I don’t mind. It’s much better than a death threat. :)

Nice blog, by the way. I was interested to see that you were at the SpaceShipOne launch. How neat to have a mother who would accompany you on such a trip! I own a bit of stock in SpaceDev (the outfit that, among other things, suplied the solid fuel rocket engine for SpaceShipOne). What is your opinion on whether or not I will make money?
